Not a Hurley fan, but turning down 70 million with the Lakers had to be tough. Gotta respect that.
Looks like he has some choices down the road and is playing the long game. ‘He turned down the Lakers’ is a great way to increase people’s perception of your worth.
But the lakers are dysfunctional. Genie buss gives lebron too much power beyond the court. Great coaches have a system they need to be able to implement, and often certain players don’t like it. The Lakeshow would be a tough place to succeed given how many variables that contribute to success would be out of the head coach’s control. Smart move by Hurley, assuming UConn doesn’t fall off a cliff. Nba in the nearish future.

CA is a great place to live, as I’m in the same area as Illini in OC, but politics are indeed a bummer, especially north of the orange curtain. Doubt that contributed to little dan’s decision though.

Winning consecutive national championships is HARD. Winning three in a row puts you into Wooden GOAT territory. Billy Donavan won 2 in a row but never got 3rd despite some very good Final Four and Elite 8 teams. Coach K won 2 in row and 5 total but never did 3 peat. Bill Self only has two (non consecutive). Tom Izzo only has one. Billy Donovan post NCAA championships record.

Dan Hurley was nothing special until last 2 seasons.
It should be really interesting if he can maintain a GOAT level of excellence.

I don't understand the constant badmouthing of Hurley. He is a great coach. BU has similar record to date. Most of us think he is a great coach.

As many of us know, there are more important considerations in Life than just money.

Taking the Lakers job means spending a considerable part of your time and life in Los Angeles. And Southern California is not the paradise that the hype machine has tried so hard to promote since the Beach Boys were singing about girls and surfing. (It WAS a pretty nice place back then).

Some of us who have lived out there find out the harsh fact rather quickly that the hype does not match the facts.

Yes, SoCal has some things going for it. Yeah, the weather (most times). But lots of things against it, too.

Even the beaches don't match the hype. Clouds often hug the beach all day and it's damp and cool. And the Pacific waters are always really cold all year and never warm up.

It’s also striking how different most Lakers fans are from the Chicago Bulls fans. Laker fans show up because it’s the thing to do and be seen with all the show-biz types. Most Bulls fans actually love basketball and the team and bring more real passion.

But SoCal does produce a good deal of roundball talent from the area. They have that going for them.

uhhhhhhhhhhh 99.99999999% of people would rather live in SoCal versus Storrs, Connecticut. C'mon now lol
