I was shocked at first, but my guess is that Kelly wants control over the offense again. I think it’s definitely a mistake though.

Reports out there are that Moorhead may have been fired due to concerns that university officials had about the culture and discipline in the program. They also were not only disappointed with the program's performance in the Music City Bowl but the situation involving their starting QB being out for the game due to an eye injury reportedly suffered in an altercation during a practice leading up to the bowl game.

Does Miss St really think they're that good to fire morehead after what he achieved there only 2 yrs in? The culture and discipline thing sounds like bs to me, but who would want that job if they're not going to have realistic expectations?

how does Chip Kelly keep his job? ND has had so many internal issues, a dead film guy, etc.

He didn't fall on a sword for him.....No one there really liked Long.

Because he has a .700+ winning percentage. The fall that killed the student manager was terrible, but once Notre Dame decided to stick with him, it's obvious his success has been excellent.

Apparently Rocky Long has stepped down at San Diego State to take the DC position at Syracuse and is being replaced by Brady Hoke.

So, that's nuts.

Yeah, I figured he was retiring when he left San Diego St. Maybe just doesn't want pressure of HC job. Though interesting that he's considering moving cross country given all his coaching has been in west. When Oregon St. was looking for new HC, some people were advocating for Rocky (he was Beavers DC for 4 seasons).

Hot rumor is that SDSU told him to make changes to his staff and he told them where to go. Not sure how true that is and I'm not sure I care either, I'm more intrigued by why he'd want to take the Syracuse DC position. As you note, it's on the other end of the country and Dino Babers isn't exactly locked into that job for life. To me, that job stinks. A guy like Rocky Long could no doubt have done better but to each their own I guess.
