I just saw Archie Miller is now the HC at Rhode Island. I somehow missed seeing that.

chris beard officially OUT at Texas.. let the speculation begin.

trying to think of any proven top coaches nationally with deep ties to texas/the southwest that might be feeling under appreciated at the moment despite having recently led a program back to national relevance. its on the tip of my tongue..

would hate for the program that had a coach like that to get in a bidding war with the richest athletic department in the country if i was a fan of that program.. can’t imagine that would turn out well for me..

in all seriousness though i would have to think BU is on an extremely short list of targets, with UT able to guarantee him the assistant pool to lure assistants from anywhere in the country…. even UK

I think some BU supporters are underrating the impact this dumpster fire is having on his market value. His first crack at navigating the portal is not going well.

That said, not many were interested in him 10 games into his OSU season.

Well, no, his first crack at navigating the portal went great, he secured the commitments of a couple of the top players.

I think the market perception of this season is that he's just had this one team all go to crap on him. That doesn't help, but I just worry it leaves him so frustrated and with such a mess to clean up that other options start looking appealing. He was in such a confident frame of mind six months ago he wouldn't have given any consideration to the Texas job. I'm not so sure now.

I don't know if guys like Oats or Musselman are realistic for them. They'd be ahead of BU on the list but we'll see.

I don't mean to be obtuse, but let's look at this as a Texas fan would look at it.

Underwood has a pretty sparkling record of talent acquisition via all means up to and including this season. He also has proven to be able to develop and effectively deploy really talented players over the broad sweep of his career, with this season being an exception. Everyone can see what a mess we are, but Shannon, Mayer and Hawkins having no chemistry together isn't Texas' problem.

"Bad at integrating portal players" isn't a real consideration, and even if it was, Alfonso Plummer did great!

The lack of NCAA Tournament success is going to weigh much, much more heavily on scrutiny of BU's record than this dumpster fire of a team which is a one-off resume item.

Anyway I hate talking like this I hope BU is here for a long time to come.

Who are the development successes?

Yes on Plummer. And to be fair the jury remains out on this season but as of now it's a negative.

Recruiting won't be a huge factor for Texas. They seem to do it under every coach.

Like you I hope he's here for a long time. But I'm also not going to ignore issues as I and others did with Weber.

Of course my influence extends to posts on the board and a few tickets. I have no idea what our NIL funders think.
