Comet Neowise

I like astronomy stuff, so this is pretty cool to me.

The last comet that was visible to the naked eye was Hale-Bopp in 1997, so they don't come around that often. This one comes back in just under 7000 years.

Here is a link with where to look:

and here is a link with a pretty good photo, although what I saw tonight with binoculars had a tail maybe twice as long:

Hope you enjoy!

Just to "see" a comet isn't enough; it's an experience. Got up at 2 or 3 a.m. to experience H-B in March 1997, I think, in the northeast and then spent quality time in the darkness of farmland near DeKalb, IL to watch Neo in the northwest.

When's the next experience due?

Neo of course was 7/20.

I read that Comet Leonard might be a good show at the end of the year.

Anybody ever seen Northern Lights? I have but only 3 times: early 60s, mid-90s and 20-odd years ago. Really something, fellow stargazers and skygazers.

I was lucky enough to (just barely) see some Northern Lights on a flight from Seattle to Seoul that had to re-route further north to avoid weather. I was only able to catch about 15 seconds, but it was pretty cool.

I lived in Scotland for three years and never saw the Northern Lights. Also used to visit Fort McMurray in Canada for work pretty often and didn't see them there, either. On clear, cold nights, the stars look like they are a bowl covering Fort McMurray. Really bright. Was cool to see.
