Gonzaga coach Mark Few cited for DUI

it will take a little more than a garden variety DUI to get Few fired. Its a private school .
100% true. It'll take a lot more; I was being facetious. But I'm sure a suspension will be in order, giving Powell the chance to have the reins for a couple games

As much as I abhor drinking and driving, how many coaches with seemingly squeaky clean images and records have gotten fired over one DUI?

I get guys who have a history of any sort where you can call the dui the straw that broke the camels back. But afaik few doesn’t have any of that.
It's the type of thing that gets you fired if the school already wants a way out of your contract, which is about the furthest thing from Few's situation.

he should have NEVER blown .

deal with the consequences of that & what that means , but leave your attorney something to work with
without a breath number that gets known & publicized , keep it a he said/ cop said thing & deny , deny , deny . now everyone knows he had a .12

that’s 4-5 drinks

never incriminate yourself .

Correct me if I'm wrong. If you don't blow you go to jail regardless. The title says he was 'cited' not arrested. If he hadn't blown he would've gone to jail. Since he did he is only being 'cited'.

Depending on the state, refusal is admittance. Regardless when you get booked they can even take a finger prick if they want. It's still a smart move because unless you're dangerous they often won't want to go through the hassle.

They can get your blood if you refuse the breath test, but it isn't a finger prick, it's a blood draw - and they must obtain a warrant (they'll get it)

Also, in Illinois I believe an automatic 12-month driver's license suspension kicks in if you refuse to blow, which is enough to get a lot of people to take their chances.

not in Illinois

you get an automatic loss of license for one year by not blowing

what happens in court 2-3 month later with the DUI charge is up to the judge & prosecutor and how good any other evidence is and the offenders prior record plays a role

I’m not an atty - but I know a lot of them - EVERYONE says to NEVER voluntarily incriminate yourself .

fyi , unless you are in an accident where there are other people or significant property damage , they aren’t going to get a warrant to draw blood for a garden variety dui .

issued a citation for dui is the same as arrested for dui , ie same crime

What ever happened to human integrity? We are all old enough and seen enough commercials to not drink and drive. If you do it and want to try your luck that's your dumb decision. Why then do we think and now teach our children, it is ok to do some bad things, it is ok to lie in this situation or that one, but because mom and dad do it doesn't make it ok for you. If I have a son that Few is recruiting, that would be just the man I would want my son to be led by as he matures in his college years. I know I'm old fashioned and need to step back and keep my mouth shut.

How about some root cause analysis? Don't drink and drive?

I agree 100% . I don't drink

But I also believe in not incriminating yourself.
This is the USA - we have constitutional rights to protect ourselves against all kinds of things, and we should exercise them when ever we need to.

Cops saw him zig-ZAGing and pulled him over. They suspected he had a Few too many. They made him walk 10 steps heel to toe. He completed the first six, but stumbled on the final four.
