We haven’t made it yet here in the states, (and many of you will beat me to it since I’m on the west coast) but definitely a Happy New Year to my fellow Illini fans, especially to any of you living in the far east right now.

How’s 2022??

I am late to this thread but, what an inspiring photo of Memorial Stadium @chiefini . I am one of the few who cares less about basketball and lives only to see Illinois Football become great again. My earliest childhood memories of Illini sports were at Memorial Stadium, 1981-1983. My first game was the pre-season Illini v Alumni scrimmage which featured newcomer Tony Eason vs Dave Wilson at QB. You can imagine how spoiled that made me as a fan. I was in the stands with my Grandpa for the '83 win over Michigan. 76,000 screaming fans the whole time and after, the goalposts came down. That was football to me. I did go to basketball games too (I think George Montgomery was my first favorite hoops player) but that experience was nothing compared to football. CU was wild on football Saturdays in '82 and '83. Happy New Year, Illini!

Thanks, Orange. I became an Illini fan a little earlier, during my high school years, as my older brother started going to Illinois. I had season tickets for both sports from 1970-74 as a student (during some pretty bleak FB years). Met my husband (whose dad was a legendary Illini basketball player) our senior year. We got involved with the Grants in Aid program and alumni club that his dad started, and we went to many of those games in 1983, including the amazing win against Ohio State, the game before that victory against Michigan. We went to the Rose Bowl, and then we bought football season tickets after that for the next 35 years while also attending as many basketball games as we could. We still both bleed Orange and Blue, and we’re optimistically hoping that our coaches bring both sports back to national relevance to stay.
