Season ends with a 6-3 loss to scUM. Overall record of 25-27. And, yes, those uniforms were not very pretty.
I admittedly didn't watch too closely this year, but didn't we have some injury issues that set us back?I’d say 23 was a disappointing yr…Watched the series vs southern mississippi beginning the yr and thought we had the offense to make some sorta postseason noise.. I was also excited when they visited ok st 7+ yrs ago and won 2/3 in stillwater . Really felt a postseason birth was happening this season. Is what it is and I’ll be ready to watch next yrs squad regardless. I-L-L
He was an all American pitcher signed by the cubs, drafted into the service. Pitched on weekends for the Cubs (7-0?) and threw 3(?) no hitters in ml. ( all from faded 76 yr old memory!)Just saw that Ken Holtzman is going into Illini HOF. Didn’t even know he had played at Illinois.
Yes, I’m pretty familiar with his story — well, except for the being an Illini alum part. And since you kind of asked, he threw 2 no-hitters. I was actually in attendance for the first one in 1969 against the Braves. That was the second win in my streak of 21 wins before I ever saw the Cubs lose in person at Wrigley. I think my record now stands at 33-2. And fun fact about that no-hitter — Kenny did not strike out a batter. He was an all American pitcher signed by the cubs, drafted into the service.
