I started a post showing some statistics agreeing with this, then remembered whose record I was defending, and deleted it with a heavy head of shame.
Jordan, Kobe, Dirk, Wade & Kawhi won championships in the last 30 years, using the mid-range as their primary weapon. For most mortals, (recognizing the insane amount of ability you need to make an NBA squad) it's an inefficient shot, but for a select few (HOF type guys) it's unstoppable. You just have to be able to get to your spots whenever you want, no matter who is defending you, and knock down an extremely high percentage of them.

Biggest thing though is that college isn't the NBA, and in college I think the mid-range has a much more prominent role and should be in players' arsenal more than it is. This is something Ayo really understood to be such a stud in college. However, since all the kids in AAU are dreaming of NBA, they aren't developing the mid range the way they used to. The (longer) three point average in the NBA is 36 % leaguewide. Only 22 % of college teams shoot at that percentage or better. I don't know the average, but I know the median Division 1 team shoots 34.3 % on three point attempts.
You don't want to shoot inefficient mid-range jumpers (think like Prime Kobe and TMac that could make ridiculously difficult contested long twos, it looks cool when it goes in, but it just isn't the ideal shot) which have rightfully been largely scrubbed out in both NBA and college basketball.. but there's a healthy middle where there are OPEN mid-range jumpers that could likely be made at a very high percentage that players either just aren't taking or aren't making at a rate they should given their free throw/three point abilities as overall jump shooters because they just aren't working on that part of their game more.

1.) Hire him and let him build his program
until he wins that first National Title
2.) Fire him after he is hoisted by his own petard. At which point I would hire his best, equally talented and less BS baggage assistant coach

That's really good news --happy for him. It's been a long layoff --never know how it may have affected him until he gets back into game situations, but if he can be a plus shooter, that will help the team out down the stretch.

Yes, the fact that ‘The Loyalty Hivemind’ has ‘SO many basketball geniuses’ is made manifest every day on these very pages by the numerous Smartest roundball Minds in the World, aka Illini Orange Nation.
But there remains the perpetual gap and spacing between ‘Knowing’ what needs to be done... and actually Doing it.
Evidence for that is found in shooting the ball. Every player who ever took the court knows what has to be done with every shot. But they can’t always do it. In fact, if you can do it HALF the time you are considered a Shooting Savant.
But many who post here could very easily have gone into Coaching... or are already doing so (or are already retired from such). In fact, some folks here would be noticeable improvements over Coaches who currently have gigs.
But for the Illini we are fortunate not to have to worry about that problem. We have a generational Coach who has turned the program around and with his wisdom and energy and 'Elite' passion has resurrected and vaulted it from the mediocrity of the pack it had been stuck in right up to Top 25 status on a yearly basis.
And with the big ice storm in Texas finally coming to an end today... things should be nice and warm in Houston when you arrive.
The missing piece the also activates the source code in RJ turning us from inconsistent team with talent into the greatest team to ever play the game. And yes I'm under selling it

If he is indeed cleared, I would think it would be at least a week of full practice before he’s thrown in a game right? I mean I know Underwood said he’s in better condition than he was before he was injured, but no one believes that.
Not sure if this is the right place for it so move if necessary, but this new NIL presumption bylaw seems ripe for abuse and misuse by jilted rivals:
Bylaw 19.7.3: In cases involving name, image and likeness offers, agreements and/or activities in which related communications and conduct are subject to NCAA regulation, the infractions process shall presume a violation occurred if circumstantial information suggests that one or more parties engaged in impermissible conduct. The enforcement staff may make a formal allegation based on the presumption. The hearing panel shall conclude a violation occurred unless the institution or involved individual clearly demonstrates with credible and sufficient information that all communications and conduct surrounding the name, image and likeness activity complied with NCAA legislation.
I'm not sure how the NCAA looked back at the Pearl incident and decided, you know what, I think we need a law such that more guilty until proven innocent cases can be decided by us, but here we are. So for those in the know, how much of a chicken little should we be at this point, considering this would be just about the most Illini thing to happen to us based on our history and how well we've portaled these past couple years? Is Juwan Howard already writing them an anonymous tip that TSJ coming here was shady? Hell, Bruce Pearl might already have his circumstantial evidence of the other SEC teams printed in triplicate right now...

I remember that game, and reading that DMac figured it out, but might have been from another source. He's the PG, so it seems like it would be him.
