Illini Fight Type Song Lyric Question

#1
I have been trying to figure out what the students chant in the spoken lyrics of one of our fight type songs for years at the basketball games. And I just can't make it out and it has been tearing me and my friends up trying to get it figured out. Hopefully, someone one here will help?

It is the song we typically play in the second half at the under 16 min time out. Right after the cheerleaders run the flag around the isles between the sections of seats and over the floor. I have been told the song is called "Runaway Baby"...but I am not sure if that is true?

Anyway, its is mostly the band playing music. But the music stops several times (3 or 4 times) and the students chant something (a small phrase) at each of the stops. The first stop chant the students say "Go Illini". The second stop chant is what I cannot figure out. Would someone please tell me?

If you know the other stops chants and would share that would be awesome too. But darn that second one. Please help. :hailtotheorange:

So yeah that's Runaway Baby. The vocals started with the band and then the students picked up on them. The ones I think you're specifically referencing are "Go Illini," "Barry Houser is my Dad," and then "Hotdog." Then at the very end they just yell swag. I'm not sure if the "hotdog" or "swag" lines have been picked up by the students tho like the first two have been. Block I and Krush do love Barry tho so they were quick to pick up on the second one.

THANK YOU! I've been meaning to post this question for the past year or even go ask the band. Band always play it at the under-16 2nd half TO and at WBB play it between 3rd and 4th qtr. I shout Go Illini and then carefully try to decipher the rest.

Conveniently, Robert posted an article today and at the very end he added a video he took from within the Tuba section of Runaway Baby which really lets you hear the vocals.

This is great. I’ve been thinking in my mind what would be the most appropriate thread to ask this exact same question all season, so I’m so happy I can participate more than “go Illini!” next game!
