We should have benefitted from a soft crossover schedule this year but we won the tough game against psu while dropping the easy games against Maryland and rutgers. Next year is going to be tough with Michigan, mich state, and psu as well as 5 conference road games.

Anyone hear that there is going to be some adjustments to the Big Ten schedules due to covid throwing schedules off?

I also heard that Penn State is pushing for a realignment of the divisions.

Adjustments are based on inter-division games where teams flipped home games to away games based on Big Ten shuffling the schedule. I don't believe any of Illinois' B1G West games were shuffled from planned home/away matchups so it wouldn't change their schedule. From what I remember, most of the changes were East matchups.

How do we get PSU on the road again? Iowa will be a winnable game. If we get the right pieces this offseason, we can compete for the west.

Makes sense for them as the east is a serious gauntlet. Ohio State is obviously a perennial top 5 team and if Michigan is truly back PSU is 3rd at best

I think a north/south would be cool.

South

Nebraska
Illinois
Purdue
Indiana
Ohio state
Maryland
Rutgers

obviously the rest in the north and it’s a little more balanced.

The reality is that the divisions are already pretty balanced and make sense.

East West
20211110
202077
20191110
20181110
2017148
20161011

Penn St just doesn't want to be in the same division as Ohio St. If you swap Wisconsin for Ohio St the results in this chart are flipped and the west is the superior division.

Let's go ahead and swap Nebraska and Northwestern and we can rename the divisions Ohio State Fantasy Island and Penn State Careful What You Wish For. Of course, we have to have OSU vs PSU a protected rivalry.

Think next year will be more of a re-build and with a pretty tough schedule and brand new ol it's hard to imagine a bowl. However, there is a real opportunity for us to make some noise in 2023

Going forward, the Illini need at least an average Big Ten quarterback who can read defenses, release quickly, and throw accurately. That has eluded us for years. I admire Art's toughness, but he is facing a long recovery and has not shown he can keep drives going and reliably find and connect with open receivers. I trust BB and staff to make this a top priority in the off season.

If this happens it is gifting the south to ohio state every single year. It would be a laughably pathetic division after them. Penn state would have to be in the south to so those two schools balance fairly well opposite UM, MSU and Wisco in the north.

As far as next year, I keep landing on 5 wins again. Not too bad considering we are so used to 2-3 win seasons. Hopefully we establish 5 wins as the floor and really start making some bowl games in 2023.

I'm too lazy to look it up, but I'd bet Illinois and Purdue have beaten OSU more often than Penn State and Michigan have over the past 20 years.

Thought I heard one of the announcers during the NW game saying Art was going to be out until December. Did I mishear that or is he essentially out all next year?

Penn State Wins Versus tOSU past 20 years: 5
Meat Chicken Wins vs. tOSU past 20 years: 3

Purdon't Wins Versus tOSU past 20 years: 4
Illini Wins Versus tOSU past 20 years: 2

So NOPE. Funny that Purdon't has more wins than scUM during that time, though, especially since scUM and tOSU play every year.
