Illini TBT team

Full disclosure: I'm an ardent Chief Illiniwek supporter. But without any trace of irony, I do think calling a team "the Chiefs" would be disrespectful to first nation people and the idea of the Chief itself. Symbol, not a sideline-cavorting mascot, etc.

Dan, delete if you feel this is too off-topic.

How about Team Ronin then? ;)

Damn that's really young for a hip replacement :eek:

Did he get injured or was it just degenerative?

Probably just degenerative. Basketball is one sport potentially very damaging to your own body (as opposed to football where the damage is most likely done by someone else).

Starters:

PG Dee Brown
SG Brandon Paul
SF Malcolm Hill
PF Roger Powell
C James Augustine

Bench:

PG: Deron Williams
SG: Rayvonte Rice
SF: Dike Eddleman
PF: Brian Cook
C: Nnanna Egwu

I've only been an Illini fan for the 05 season when they made their big tourney run. Then, went on a hiatus. Then came back when Groce got hired. Been a fan ever since. You guys have more knowledge than me, so enjoy this list. I added Dike because he's from my area, and heard he was amazing.

Dream team... However: Deron, Brandon, Malcolm, and Nnanna most likely will be playing in the NBA next year. So they would have to be excluded.

Ummm, Deron has won 2 Olympic gold medals, played for over a decade in the NBA, and gotten a max deal. Meanwhile Dee had a small cup of coffee, the first one as a favor to Deron. How, in the blue hell, would Dee start over Deron?

Add that Brian Cook was no slouch and an NBA player for several years to include these accolades:

* BSN champion (2013)
* Second-team All-American – TSN (2003)
* Third-team All-American – AP, NABC (2003)
* Big Ten Player of the Year (2003)
* McDonald's All-American (1999)

Kendall Gill is in ridiculous shape, and I bet he'd still crack the top 5 of any alumni team. I don't think Dee would play given the importance of recruiting during this time of year - even if he can't go off campus just yet. Same for Roger Powell.

And putting aside current NBA players (plus Hill, who should at least get drafted), here's my potential lineup:

-Cory Bradford
-Kendall Gill
-Rayvonte Rice
-Brian Cook
-Nnanna Egwu

-D.J. Richardson
-Luther Head
-Tyler Griffey
-Damir Krupajlia
-James Augustine

Why would you start Nnanna over Augie, when Augie is still actively playing, has years more experience, out-rebounded Nnanna by a bazillion, and has legitimate offensive skills? I can only assume you feel like Nnanna's defense is much better and that's important, though I'm not sure I agree with either.

To be honest, I put about 45 seconds of thought into it, and just mentioned Nnanna over Augie since he's younger and fresher to college competition. Totally agree Augie had the much better career - no argument here and no need to assume anything.
