I had heard that a number of the players didn't like how stern he was. Is that the reason he's being let go? It seems like the program took a step back this season

I've heard the same thing.

With Jacqui Grant transferring and Crawford graduating, next season could be ugly. White is gonna need to take a big step forward, along with some other players.

This makes the football accusations seem like nothing.

I saw a comment on another link earlier today that said that there were accusations that would make the football ones look light, but not much else so I took it with a grain of salt. But now this comes out. Wow. At some point, you would think Thomas would start feeling a little uneasy with this sort of stuff coming out.

At what point does Mike Thomas get put under the gun for these two hires, Bollant and Beckman, if both sets of allegations turn out to be substantiated?

Can we agree to make that happen?

I'll say it. Mike Thomas is an absolute train wreck. He's a major problem, and this isn't just me sniping from the internet. This is from real people who are involved in various ways with Illinois Athletics.

I hate these allegations as much as the next guy, but I selfishly hope it leads to some shakeups further up the chain.

Agreed. If I'm MT, I think I would use the SFC renovation as my leverage. If they can MT and something goes wrong with completion during the SFC completion this Fall, then the shift of blame goes from MT to the BoT. I think it would be tough to remove him, short of some sort of email trail where he knew about all of these allegations and did nothing about them.

We go from one of the worst AD's in major college athletics to a guy who potentially is even worse. I say fire Thomas now...we're due for someone halfway decent.

How I miss the days of Neale Stoner - those were some good times on campus.

Seconded.
How he has escaped all scrutiny at this point is mind boggling to me. There are so many issues and problems with Illini athletics lately. Not just this stuff. The programs image as a whole has taken a hit and there has been too much embarrassment from so many directions. That's not to even consider that I would like it if my school were actually treating the students decently.

Please elaborate as to why.

I'll keep it simple - His personality is one that rubs a lot of people the wrong way, from boosters to everyday DIA employees. He's not someone that inspires a lot of confidence and isn't a person people are generally drawn to or enjoy working for.

Nothing sinister, just not the type you'd expect to be leading an athletic department.

I've heard similar from DIA employees. Not that the guy is a monster, just really lacking a connection with any human beings.

I'll be honest, if this WBB and football stuff has any teeth I don't see how MT survives.

That said, I have serious doubts that his replacement will be better. I was surprised we got someone as qualified as MT coming off of Guenther's stint as AD. Not an athletic department in great shape then, and might actually be worse now. At least in certain regards.

We've had trouble attracting highly regarded coaches, and I thing the same will be true for a new AD. I think we might be circling the drain here. JMHO.

I get that MT is ultimately responsible, but as far as Bollant goes wasn't that considered a slam dunk hire? We all questioned the Beckman/Groce hires somewhat, but I think Bollant was considered one of the best at Green Bay.

Regarding boosters, I have read the opposite reaction on another website.
