Highlights of Taponen looked good. Positioned her body well to receive pass, open for shots, used both hands to shoot when under pressure. Set screens well also and I hope with the guards we will have that is a key next year. Where did she play in High School? So difficult to find info on women's sports, any help I would appreciate.

I don't think high school or college sports is as much of a thing in Europe as is club sports.

TAPONEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Competes for Club HBA-Marsky Helsinki
  • Averaged 11.4 points and 9.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game during the 2020-21 season
  • Helped Finland to the 2019 FIBA U18 Women's European Championship (Division B)
  • Also competed for Finland in both the 2017 and 2018 U16 European Championships

The roster has been updated to include the transfers and two freshman (Jackson and Taponen). I'm not sure if/when Dewey will be added. We currently have 10 players listed on the roster, so I anticipate we may add one or two more transfers. Overall, this is a great start with the addition of three top 100 players.

I can’t say how these ladies will stack up in the B10 because I really haven’t watched much the last few years. But there is no doubt about raising the level of talent. The fact that so many of her previous coaches and players have followed Coach Green to Champaign certainly has me optimistic. Josh found a good one I believe.

Is Erika Porter going to play somewhere else or is she finished with basketball?

Talent level will certainly be higher but yes, need some more size. Hope they can land a solid big or two. If so they can be competitive in B1G right out of the gate. Nice start so far for Shauna and Co.

There are still several "bigs" in the portal that would be huge pickups for Illinois:

Grace Hall, a top 100 player from Illinois is a 6'1" forward with three years of eligibility left (LSU)

Angel Reese, a 6'3" junior who was a first-team All Big Ten Player (Maryland)

Taylor Gibson, a 6'3" sophomore forward (Michigan)

Latasha Lattimore, a 6'4" sophomore forward (Texas)

Annaliese Griffen, a 6'1" guard from Joliet (Virginia)

Piath Gabriel, a 6'5" sophomore forward (UConn)

Jillian Holingshead, a 6'5" sophomore forward (Georgia)

Treasure Hunt, a 6'1" junior guard (Kentucky)

She would be a nice addition and would give us a fourth top 100 player on the roster. That's a significant upgrade. We've moving in the right direction.
