I was just flipping through the channels and came across the Illini vs. Penn St. match, well I just watched our guy Martinez get pinned by a redshirt freshman. They said that was Martinez's first lost in 61 matches. Sad to see that end, but man what a run by that kid. Hopefully he will learn from it and continue to dominate.

Zac Brunson, who was also ranked #1 and undefeated this year also got pinned.

Only at Illinois can TWO undefeated #1 wrestlers get pinned in the same meet in front of the home crowd. :tsk:

This has to be one of the worst years in Illinois athletics in a long time.

NCAA championships are this weekend at Madison Square Garden. We have 4 Illini in the quarterfinals - Zane Richards (#3 at 133), IMar (#1 at 157), Steven Rodriguez (#6 at 165), and Brooks Black (unseeded at 285). Brunson (#5 at 174) won his first and lost his second and Koepke (unseeded at 184) lost his first are both wrestling in wrestle backs tonight. Good luck Illini!

Richards won his quarterfinal match this morning - guaranteed his All-American spot. Will face off against Clark from Iowa tonight - each has beat the other once this season (both in OT). That is the only loss of the season for each.

IMar will be wrestling tonight for his 2nd straight national championship. Richards & Rodrigues still wrestling also for 3rd.

Richards places 4th and Rodrigues places 5th. Congrats to our All-American wrestlers! Good luck to IMar tonight!

Illinois finishes tied for 9th with Michigan. That's a pretty good finish, considering everything that went against them this year.

B1G places six teams in the top 10.

And Iowa goes something like 0-8 today to drop to fifth behind Ohio State and Virginia Tech. :D

Congratulation Isaiah Martinez. A two-time national champion. Understanding that wrestling is not a revenue Sport, and is not watched by most Illinois fans, I encourage everyone to read his story, and learn a little bit about this true champion. Go Illini.

Is there any video of the match online? I can't seem to find anything yet.

Hopefully it will get posted to YouTube but its not there yet.

Edit--> I did not know that his stepfather passed away last October. I could tell that they were very close when Isaiah won it last year.
