I don't understand what makes Indiana a top ten team. They haven't played anyone yet, and they struggled against 4-4 Xavier.

Xavier is a good team. That was a good win on the road for IU.

But I agree with urbanite, we will find out a lot more about IU in the next 3 weeks.

If they're overrated, we'll find out soon. After hosting UNC in the challenge, they play at Rutgers, vs. Arizona, and at Kansas before Christmas.
I think Arizona and Kansas will eat their lunch and they'll win the other two. Then they'll land in the mid to upper teens where they belong.

It's worth noting that Missouri is now receiving some votes ... they have not played anyone at all, of course, and I do not necessarily think they are very good. However, I would love to see teams ahead of them collapse and Mizzou enter the Braggin' Rights Game with a little buzz, as it makes the event more fun. As I have said previously, last year was our first Braggin' Rights Game and I had an absolute blast even though Mizzou's side was about 20% full (combination of them being terrible/burnt out with Cuonzo and their bowl game being on during the game) ... I cannot even imagine how fun it is if both sides are full, and I hope to find out this year when we return!

Mizzou very well could enter the game with only one loss (they're currently 7-0) with this remaining schedule:

11/29 at Wichita State (Shockers are 3-2 with some bad losses)
12/4 vs. Southeast Missouri State
12/10 vs. #9 Kansas (... never know!)
12/17 vs. UCF in Sunrise, FL (UCF is 5-2 but lost to UNC Asheville)

Fortunately for IU and unfortunately for those of us who are nauseated at the media proclaiming them as "back" before they prove it on the court, it looks like UNC is a bit of a paper tiger ... we will find out just what IU is made of when they travel to Lawrence.

By the way, as of now we would play 10 top 25 teams on our current regular season schedule. That would be quite a lot, and Iowa is almost ranked and could be again soon, pushing it to 11 ... for reference:

2022-23: 10 (3 NC, 7 B1G)
2021-22: 8 (1 NC, 7 B1G)
2020-21: 9 (2 NC, 7 B1G) ... pretty crazy for a 7-game non-conference season!
2019-20: 9 (1 NC, 8 B1G)
2018-19: 9 (1 NC, 8 B1G)
2017-18: 4 (0 NC, 4 B1G)

2012-13: 10 (2 NC, 8 B1G)
--- 16 B1G games before this ---
2004-05: 7 (3 NC, 4 B1G)
2001-02: 5 (3 NC, 2 B1G)
2000-01: 6 (4 NC, 2 B1G)

So, for such a young/new team, at least as far as rankings are concerned, we are playing a great schedule - most non-conference games vs. ranked teams since the glory years, by my count! Hopefully that only helps us with seeding come March.

I would not be surprised if UNC wins against Indiana. They match up pretty good.

If St Mary’s upsets Houston on Saturday (which I wouldn’t be all that shocked by), we could be looking at a matchup with #1 Texas at MSG.

I would like that. I was hoping they would have already had it, but alas, no.

As a young father I seldom got to see televised sporting events live (due to work, kids, family, ...etc) I didn't have time....so I would record and then watch later when wife and kids were in bed....fast forwarding thru commercials, halftime, etc....I could watch a 2 hr college basketball game in about an hour and a half...got so use to that back then, that now sitting and watching a game live I keep reaching for the remote to fast forward during commercials, etc and then I realize oh yea...I'm watching live....I can mix a Tito's and sprite zero during a regular time out and make it back before play resumes

Count me as thoroughly surprised by their start. Certainly didn’t account for two modestly ranked true frosh guards to look as good as Loyer and Smith have-but I think water will find it’s level. I don’t see a world where they maintain top 5 level play all year, but I’ve certainly been wrong plenty of times before 😃

I commented earlier that I thought they were the best team in the BIG, and I think they are legit top-5. They have 8 first place votes, so I'm not alone in thinking that. That's ultimately good for the conference, and will help SOS.

I think we drop into the 20s this week. A bad loss to Texas drops us out of the top 25. The potential is there, we just aren’t firing on enough cylinders yet. Optimistic about the rest of the season, but BIG road games are getting tougher again, e.g. Maryland’s fan base resurrection from the dead.

16 is an offer of respect to our team. We lost but played very hard, on the road. This week will give us a Grand opportunity for a quality win. We gotta play defense early (unlike what happened at Maryland)

We need Mayer to be a contributor to the team offensively. Until this happens, I believe we will struggle against most top teams. Good to see RJ now hitting some shots.
W/o Mayer's offence, we still hung with top teams (e.g., Virginia) well. "Struggle" is an exaggeration. To become a top 5/10 team ourselves, it is ideal to have ~10 ppt from Mayer though.
