What is it about Missouri (I know some of you have personal reasons but try to be little objective)? Is it some kind of natural rivalry or did it become a rivalry because back in 1976 someone thought it would be a good idea to schedule Missouri (or vice versa) and it turned out to be a good thing. It grew into a great rivalry. Both teams were probably fairly even for the first 20 years or so. But there didn't seem to be a desire to create this rivalry prior to 1976. Illinois and Missouri played seven times in a little over 40 years up to 1976 (first game was 1932 which Illinois won by the whopping score 36-24). So if it was merely created we can create another one, hopefully, a better rivalry. I think starting a rivalry with a team that is at least a step up from Missouri would be good thing for the program. I think after 50 or so years maybe it is time to move on. It would take some effort but eventually I believe fans would become as fierce in their support of a different rivalry facing a different team. Everything that people have pointed out here about the attractions of this IL MO rivalry can just as easily be transferred to another rivalry. But, actually, truth be told, I really don't care. I just think it is something to think about considering the rise of Illinois basketball and the decline of Missouri's. I just think Illinois could do better.

And I know I will probably get in trouble here but I don't understand the "hate". I dislike certain teams, certain coaches. [QUOTE="Guest, post: 1690319, member: 748655"] Nope, never been. But please don't take this the wrong way but I don't see why that should make any difference. I am not a football fan but when I was going to school I went to a game (Indiana) and had a great time. Don't even remember if we won or not. I really enjoyed it but I am still not a football fan and rarely watch football. Too boring. Last night while I was at once celebrating the victory (don't get me wrong, I am very happy Illinois won) I was also thinking about why we get so excited about this game.
