First of all, props to Fran and Iowa. That was a well-coached team and its offense is really enjoyable to watch. Not hopped about playing in IC in two weeks. Second, what a fun basketball game to watch. Would have enjoyed being in the SFC for it. Loved the bucket of ice water that BU poured on the starters at the beginning of the 2H. Well-needed. Then was even more delighted to see the subs hold their own and then some. IMO it's not that Nico or Amani are going to start playing 20 mins per game. They shouldn't and won't. The most heartening thing about the game (aside for the W) was what it showed us we have AT THE MARGIN going into March. Nico will need to prove himself against physical, aggressive (i.e., non-Iowa) D. However, it's really important that he got 17 mins of tick in an intense game with us trailing. It's not an exaggeration to say I'm elated about that. We now clearly have (in addition to Luke, Justin, and Dain) Amani and Nico who can spell the starters and contribute at the margin down the stretch. That seems to me to be THE revelation of the month. That extra depth seems promising for March. Minnesota at The Barn will be tough. So will the following three. I have no expectations, just want to see gritty, tough, resilient play out of the boys. They do that, March takes care of itself. Finally: thanks, CoHawk. TikTok will still be there in April.
