Illinois barely keep it close in the first half to inspire some hope, but Purdue rolls to an easy win in the second half. Purdue 31 - Illinois 10

If our defense plays like tonight, it’ll be close but a coin flip. If the defense doesn’t show up, we get beat by two scores.

They only beat Oregon St at home by 9 I think. Illini are going to have trouble with WR David Bell, and they’ve got a good TE too.

How about alternating series between BP and Art in the first half and play the second half with who has best performance at halftime ?

I'm kidding.....kinda kidding
Well, maybe I'm kidding...
OK. IM NOT KIDDING

Appease both crowds
Can't be any worse than last.night, can it ?

I think UMD is pretty good (and I assumed they’d smoke us), and Nebraska just played #3 OU decently close on the road. UVA has a chance for a very impressive win today.

My point? I’ll hold off on thinking we are terrible just yet. We have a few gaping holes and the MANNER in which we lost last night was infuriating, but I don’t think it’s a forgone conclusion we will lose handily at Purdue. I think we will know a lot about this team after next week.

I agree.

As for last night, it's tough when the Illini finally get something going offensively with #2 and #0 pounding the rock, then BOTH of them get knocked out of the game within a couple plays. That killed the offensive momentum. They were able to regroup after a couple drives and get a little something going with #23 running hard, but they didn't have the same punch. MD was able to gain their composure, and then their superior athletes made the necessary plays. Hard to fault the effort by the Illini, even though no one wants "moral" victories.

I am tired of wasting my time and money on this program only to be pissed off and disappointed year after year. Michigan State, Indiana, Minnesota are winning, why not us?

I get your frustration, but we must stay logical. We all knew that where we were last year was NOT good enough, and that wasn’t going to change immediately. The sad truth is we need a few new recruiting classes in.

They sure didn’t look it today
Didn’t see the game, but looking at the box score there is plenty to scare me going into the game — 291 yards passing and on D they had 4 sacks and 7 TFL. I don’t think we have an answer for Karlaftis. But their backup QB finished the game and did throw 2 picks, so if Plummer is out who knows.

I would like to see us utilize the QB/WRs and really make it part of the Offensive attack. WR screen to Spann with a throw option. Jet sweep with Isiah with a throw option. We have significant athletes, but they are undersized. we need to get creative. let's double up with two Randle El type players and some hard hitting RBs between Mcray and Brown. We need an identity and it's not going to come from Peters. I like Art, but he hesitates too much and too long to be effective. if you tap the ball 3 to 4 times before you throw it you are going to put the ball (& receivers) in a precarious position.

What I’m seeing is we don’t have much to throw to unless IW and DS are throwing to each other. I’m shocked our wr’s can’t get any separation. At all. Even the TE’s we complain about not getting enough touches haven’t shown they can consistently get open. And the few times they have, we missed them.

Focus on our playmakers.
2 TEs not enough touches - esp up the seams.
IW is electric and needs 10-12 touches a game. It’s like we’re forgetting about him.
Spann has been a nice surprise - but Friday… wasn’t used.

Wildcat with IW? Spann? Collier?
Quick slants etc to help get them get the ball faster? Random 2min offense?
Something other than a read option going up the middle 87 times?

We may not have the horses yet…but my goodness - some innovation/creativity would be a start.
