You are what your record says you are. They were not competitive in any of the losses. Defense is not close to a championship level.
Agreed. Good teams tend to have a really good offense or really good defense. Great/elite teams have both.

Definitely considering it (later kickoff helps for the two hour travel time). The tickets are dirt cheap right now. That is very rare for when we play Wisconsin. I expect a bunch of orange in the stands.

I know the most popular fan base narrative is “fire Henry”, but I was just doing some digging…

Our defense played poorly against the 1, 2, 3 (yes, we’ve played the top 3 offenses in the country) and 23 ranked offenses.

But, against the regular offenses we’ve faced, the 32, 34, 87, 89, and 113 ranked offenses, we’re giving up just 13 points per game.

Wisconsin has the 119th ranked offense, so I expect a pretty good defensive performance on Saturday.

Lulz, Loyalty never disappoints. Fire Henry, for why?

Thanks for the breakdown, Stew.

Completely agree here. If the offense takes care of the ball, the Illini should come close to or cover the spread. I expect the Illini to wear down the Badgers by the time "Jump Around" plays.

It might not be a sexy win, but I think we avoid a one-score game.

Quoting myself here to add extra context:

The 2022 defense that we all loved didn’t play a single offense above #32 in the country according to ESPN’s FPI rankings.

This year’s team has played 4 above that (including the #1, #2, and #3 offenses in the country), along with one equal to it at #32 and one just below it at #34.

If this year’s team had that year’s schedule, this defense would likely be giving up less than 20 points per game (again, we’re currently giving up just 13 points per game to teams ranked at or below #32 now) and we’d all be talking about how great this year’s defense is.

*Yes, I realize the 2022 defense was still better.

I seriously considered making the trip from Des Moines for this one, but tickets are also stupid cheap for the Iowa State-Kansas game this Saturday. I made a business decision to give my son his first home football game experience in Ames and be home in plenty of time to watch the Illini on TV.

Thinking about going to the NW game since it’s Thanksgiving weekend and I have family to stay with in the Quad Cities halfway spot for the road trip.

Given the score margins and the fact that they lost to the only sub-.500 team they've faced, I'm not sure their record would be much better, but Wisky faced a hellacious B1G schedule this year:

Like us, they played both undefeated teams.
They played two of the three one-loss teams (One for us)
They played/will play four of the five current 4-3 teams (We played one of the other four)
They played one current sub-.500 team (We played/will play five)

I also think them playing better is people arent really up for the games. The defense isn't even "good" but it does enough to make offenses earn it. The offense and special teams are horrible. I think its a big hunting day in WI (bow or shotgun). I am going up with peeps to not sure where to park for tailgating?

Yes, according to ESPNs FPI, they have played the #1 most difficult schedule in the country up to this point.

We’ve played the #16.
