Is this gonna be like 2007 where we were surprise favorites against a ranked (I want to say top-10, like #9 or #5) Wisconsin team? Badgers are down but this is on the road so it would feel about the same...
2007 was my favorite Wisky game. It was so hot we fried in the stands. They were ranked #5 at the time, a week after Arrelious ran one back against #21 Penn St.

That was my freshman year. Student season tix in the NEZ. I was too young and brash to realize how magical of a season that was, and how rare.

Camped out all night for Rose Bowl tickets during finals week in December. Bombed my Calc exam the next day. Sold them at face value. Glory days.

I was at that one, too. It was hot and I remember one okay where Mendenhall went right, saw there was nothing there then turned it around and went across the field and around the D to the left for a big gain. Knew he was gonna be playing in the NFL then.

I feel like Illinois football was in some sort of a coma for the last 15 years, but just woke up and is ready to play. We had games over those years where we competed, had upsets here and there, but for the most part we just have not been very good. We've all been waiting, and are excited about this team and these coaches. I was in the stands for every game back in 2007, and remember that season fondly. Medical issues hold me back from going to games now, but I'm hoping my fellow Illini fans will start filling that stadium because this team needs us, and is ready to bring relevance.

Why not us. Why not a New Year's Day bowl. The sky is the limit, if we can avoid mistakes, and injuries. I feel like the game in Madison next Saturday is the biggest in years for Illinois football. This is a swing game. Win, and we gain enough confidence to go on a tear. Lose, and 0-2 isn't a good Big 10 start. Let's go Illini!!

Illinois 28
Wisconsin 17

My speculation: I think the coaches said before the Mocs' game, "We are going to get Brown his 100 yard game but we are going to show Wisconsin that we can move the ball in the air so that they have to scheme for more than stopping Brown. Now that we did that, I think we will have the play book opened up a bit more and keep them on their heels not sure what our game plan is going to be!

A long way off and a lot of work to be done starting with Wisconsin, but if Illini win next 3 and Chase has 3 more 100+ games (likely would be needed to get those wins), does Chase’s name find itself on the Heisman watch list?
pretty sure he's on it right now............but yea, he needs to be averaging over 130 yards per game, if hes playing for us, to be in the conversation.
There are always going to be 3-4 other guys from blue blood teams that get twice the publicity, even if their numbers are less

Wow, the spiked orange kool-aid! 😆 Seriously, as coach has stated we have to learn how not to lose. This is even harder on the road. We have to prove we can not Implode on the road. The Indiana loss looks horrible after re watching game. Then watching them today. Baby steps my friends.

Yeah, he might be “on it,” but I meant actually in the discussion. Not likely even then he’d win it — or even invited to the ceremony, but would be great for him and the program if his candidacy got a little buzz.

if he keeps his yards per game at 130-140 thru the B1g schedule, he will get legitimate publicity. scoring twice a game will help too.

Winning it ? next to impossible playing for us right now

Wisconsin has an early deficit already... arethey already looking at the return of BB! Maybe him not speaking about it is driving them crazy...🤷‍♂️

It’s my belief that Wisc still doesn’t respect us, and will still load the box to make us prove we can throw it. Ignorance will get the best of them 24-17 Illini

Wispy got their a** handed to them and placed in a small box by tOSU. It remains to be seen if they can rally from that embarrassment.
Yeah, tOSU shows no class. Up 45-14 with 9 mins left, they had their 1st string offense in the game. It was really important to them to make score 52-14, I guess.

I watched perhaps just 8-10 minutes of the OSU/WISC game last night. The Purdue and NW games were much more entertaining!

Speculating next weekend's opening Vegas odds:
Wisconsin: -9-1/2 pts; 45-1/2 pts Over/Under

Computer-generated Predicted Score: 28-18 Badgers (not my prediction. I'm still contemplating & analyzing. But we seem to be a lot healthier and certainly more well-rested. And Walters has had a lot of time to study Wisky film!)

And this is my favorite Wisconsin game of all time, just in principle. I was alive (just) but not in the stands.....and not yet able to spell ILLINI.

Wisconsin Absorbs Worst Football Defeat in Nearly 50 Years Losing to Illinois, 51-0.

Wisconsin sophomore Quarterback John Boyajian recovering a fumble while LaCroix (#67) attempts to block the opposition during Wisconsin's 51-0 loss to Illinois. The loss was Wisconsin's worst football beating since a 54-0 loss to Minnesota in 1916.

That's was Dad's Weekend in 2007. I wasn't going to get us tickets but my dad made me do it. We were lucky enough to sit in the shade and had a great time.
Hahaha. You sound like my daughter and we were at that game too. It was one of the best games I’ve been to in person. Great memories. My back still hasn’t recovered from standing all game. 🤣

No one respects us right now. Honestly, no one. Was listening to a sports talk show while driving yesterday and they went thru a fairly in depth conversation of all the b10 teams with a shot to contend, particularly in the wide open west division. No mention of Illinois. Anywhere.

Agree. I was creeping the Purdue board while they struggled to beat FAU. The posters were trying to find 4 more wins in their schedule - Illinois was assumed. Then they wouldn't assume Northwestern because "they have a good run game and a good D, so that will give Purdue trouble". Made me laugh. These aren't coaches, of course, but illustrates the general attitude. Unfortunately, we've earned it.
