16 enrolled/signed HS recruits + 1 new commit Curry + 6 transfer-ins (if they are all on scholarship) = 23

Not sure the exact numbers when you factor in last season's Blue Shirt recruits and any recruits/transfers in the current class that can be back counted to last year.
the staff always finds a way to make the math work out, but we are close to our limit, as we should be .

I know lots of programs look to sign up to 26-27 or so , as there is typically a guy who never makes it there and as you said, there is always legal ways to move some lad back a year or another forward a year. Its impossible for us to ever suggest we are done, as they always seem to find a spot if the right guy comes along unexpectedly .

I believe Coach B said he would be holding a couple spots til spring, so I think you are pretty spot on.

Usually there are transfers after spring practice wraps up, as many players find out they're not in the mix for much playing time. Normally upper classmen.

Ummmm I saw something about he was committed to a Dodge City Community College?

Congrats to the kid, I am happy for him. AND this one has me scratching my head a little bit.
Was it a grades thing? If so, how could we get him into Illinois?
I saw he had D1 offers, were they committable?

If anyone has insight, please fill me in here

Late qualifier. Similar to Witherspoon, but not nearly as late.

With the Curry commit, Illini move up to #13 class in conference — though still have lowest average rating in B1G. Given that our average recruit rating for the 2021 class is .8416, what would people deem a successful average rating for BB’s first real class? I know with impact of Covid, ratings could be a bit funky this year, but is at least getting to Lovie’s best class (.8622) a reasonable expectation?

You are kidding.
Right?

I don’t know the answer hence posing the question here. From your response, I’m assuming you’d call only hitting that average rating a fail for his first recruiting class So what are your expectations for BB’s first full recruiting class?

The class Lovie got a avg rating of .8622 we only had 16 commits so I’d expect BB’s first class to be lower around .85. We should have a higher national ranking though by filling out a full class. Imo we fall somewhere around 35 similar to Boston College this past yr

This isn't BBs class.. this is Lovie's class plus a little BB at the end.. BB first class will be next year

my take for what its worth (not much!) : BB's first full class next year will very likely be better than Lovies best, but time will tell. Recruiting players is often a 2-3 year process and we wont really know how well BB can do at UI until the fall of 2023. Covid hopefully wont stop the high school camps this summer

What younare asking is akin to this.
You are a bank robber and you walk into a bank that has just been robbed.
To be successful how much cash do you need to escape with?

This is like having your airline cancel your flight on xmas eve and then asking the night clerk at the only hotel for miles around to see the last room because you are not sure of its rating......all while there are ten others in line right behind you!

So your point is that the 2022 class is a forgone conclusion to be bad? If so, I strongly disagree.

I think the next class will be among the better classes we've seen in recent years. I imagine he'll pull a couple suprises out of a hat but the overall depth might not be as good as the 2023 class. It just takes time to find good talent and build those relationships.

Ok
Its exactly like this.
A coach before you recruits 80% of your class and you get to fill in some obvious needs without going after the highest rated recruits at a position you dont have an urgent need for. And then somebody wants to rate you on how you recruited.

I think there's a misunderstanding here. Nobody was complaining about the rating for the nearly completed class of 2021 (or at least not blaming Bielema). The guy was asking about 2022, which has 0 Lovie commits and so far one BB commit.
