it just seems to me that it’s , long term, so much easier to sustain in state recruiting vs relying on lads from 1000 miles away abd 4 states south, southeast , or east of us

why aren’t we having Illinois Football Coaches in free clinics 2-3 times per year ?

At least in my remote area of Illinois, a B1G team has in the past interacted with the local HS......IOWA. We are fighting decades of neglect.

Got to keep at it. Ferentz will retire eventually or Iowa will someday pull an Alvarez or a Nebraska.

Also, superstitiously, I am sticking to the football boards because hoops team kick butt when I stay from those boards lol.

Across the entire state. When BB started at Illinois, he talked a big game about instate recruiting and backed it up with a lot of focus on the state. The staff did pretty well last year too. But, between the offseason portal season, and the early prep season, it seems we've lost a lot of recruiting juice
I went back and checked for you (Year over Year comparison). You are 100% accurate.

We have done best when a majority of the players are from the state. The 27 class is loaded and we are striking out right now
We've got a really good head coach, decent assistants and had back to back great seasons....it's got to pay off at some point in recruiting the state, right?

Well we won’t get any of the top 10 prospects in state. Johnson was a good addition but the way it looks he might be our only commit in the top 20.

one would certainly expect it to . just not sure how the current world of NIL & unlimited transferring has adjusted everything .

Im puzzled why there still seems to be an anti-UI bias among many of the top 20 in state prep players year after year

Not until the money is the same as Ohio state, Oregon, notre dame, Michigan, USC, Indiana, Miami, Penn state, Alabama, Auburn, LSU.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Back to back very good seasons. How many top 15 players from in-state were impact players? A couple linemen and running backs? Probably as many lower rated in-state, Kreutzs, Bailey, Beaty, that played major roles. 3 star players from Florida and Texas are as good as 4 stars from Illinois.

If that’s the case why do we have so many 3 star busts from Florida.

Don't I am staying on the football threads.

Just hope there is no major IHSA news.

That's only because they haven't gotten some of those players. Lightfoot and Scott alone would've turned this past season into a CFP team. The staff has done excellent in evaluations as far as lower rated players mixed in with some higher rated guys. Still need more though (Of both), and that's the battle at hand. They're still ascending, and it continues with Johnson right now, etc. (Plus Lopati out of state).

2 More positives:

(1) Now that this year's numbers for each school in terms of revenue are out. We are in the middle of the pack. We haven't been this high in terms Revenue since the NIL transition began.

(2) We have one of the best AD's in the country and he isn't going anywhere.

That is not true. Bielema chooses not to pay high school players a lot of NIL until they have proven themselves at the college level. I agree with that philosophy. Illinois could have gotten some of these highly recruited in-state players but they want at least $500,000 and up. A lot of them will be busts.

I think the whole recruiting instate thing is a bit overblown. We're in transition, replacing the entire defensive staff, a few on the offensive side, and the STC. More interested in seeing how the new scheme gets developed first
