Illinois Football Season Record Predictions

#52
Anyone chalking a win to IU is gonna have a tough time meeting their win totals. They looked very stingy against OSU. Gave up a couple big plays which put them on their heels but they were the better team for over 2 quarters.

Fall short at 5-7 with wins over Ball St., WKU, Purdue, Rutgers and Indiana with a bowl bid next season.

I want to change my prediction to swap out Indiana and change to Minnesota instead, and cross my fingers.

Going with 5-7 and lots of forced turnovers being the key to wins... Lovie has history of 2nd year teams improving and I'm hoping this continues.

Missed the second half, but you can chalk up a fair amount IU scoring from some fancy catches--a lot of fancy catches--that yes, relied on talent, but it was fairly one dimensional. Indiana had no running game against OSU.

Still, they scored 21 points against OSU. Too bad IU ran out of miracles before running out of game.

Was that because OSU's D-line was so much better than IU's, or that IU's O-line was worse? And how will we match up respectively halfway into the season?

Halfway through the season when we meet it will be a different story. Indiana had a good first half because they were at home and it was the first game of the season against a #2 Ohio State.

In the second half IU lost because OSU decided to show up. Not because IU suddenly gave up some big plays.

IU is one dimensional on offense and has terrible corners. They're a team that can be beat.

We don't know how long Dunlap and Corbin will be out. Two big contributors with two big question marks.

We don't know how long Crouch will stay healthy. With his style of play and based on last year's performance, --and I hope I'm wrong-- I don't see him being healthy for the Big Ten season. I predict Cam Thomas will be starting by the middle of the Big Ten season.

What was with the defensive ends running themselves out of plays last year? Was that on them, or were the linebackers supposed to come up, or was it a bad defensive gamble expecting a pass and not containing?

I like what I'm hearing about the young guys and I have confidence Lovie can turn this program around, but I don't predict that happening this year.

W v. Ball State - Illini should exploit a weak secondary
L v. Western Kentucky - Sr. qb puts up big numbers
L @ South Florida - too explosive on offense for Illini to handle
L v. Nebraska - new qb and defense; healthy Illini could upset
L @ Iowa - won't be as good as last year but offensive line dominates Illini enough to win; Illini might upset if Crouch healthy and Dunlap back 100%
L v. Rutgers - young like the Illini; RU fr. qb pulls out a narrow win
L @ Minnesota - lost a lot of the team from last year; close game - healthy Crouch and Illini win, but I'm not predicting that, am I?
L v. Wisconsin - both lines push the Illini around
W @ Purdue - Cam Thomas unleashed!
L v. Indiana - Illini can't stop their offense and Cam Thomas looks like a freshman
L @ Ohio State - would be uglier if Meyer doesn't rest players for Michigan game
L v. Northwestern - too much experience for the Illini as NW wins easily

2-10

ILL_INI is probably right. I'm going to stick with my homer 4-8 prediction, but I won't be bitterly disappointed with less.

Well, I'm on the record for 2-10.

After seeing two weeks of NCAA games, USF might be our best shot for another victory. Indiana and Purdue have both looked pretty strong through two games. Let's ride the 2-0 momentum for victory #3 this weekend! Hoping to see it in person.....
