Not gonna lie. Hard time cheering for someone who does what he did in the sec tournament.
Guess we got our Mady.

Kids do stupid things. Yes, what he did was absolutely not excusable.

BU would not take a kid who has not learned from what he did and not be coachable to not ever do it again.

Except, perhaps, against MSU? :sneaky:

Guessing Giorgi's gonna play in Europe.
I mentioned this earlier in the season when Giorgi had the pseudo meltdown when coming off the floor. He has not seen his family in well over a year. He will have his degree in May so there is really nothing here that points to him staying his senior year. I believe the team knows he is going to move on and they are quickly replacing him. I expect an announcement from Giorgi sometime soon. He will leave Illinois knowing that he contributed to the new culture we currently have.

Looks like good pick up. He averaged 3 times the blocks per game that Giorgi did in about same amount of minutes, and just a shade under what Kofi did in 12 more mpg. Hopefully OA can help him expand his post skills a bit. Heck he even had two games with 2 assists — though by no means Krutwig in the passing department. Good backup if Giorgi does indeed leave.

Was it wrong, sure but I’m not going to judge anyone off one heat of the moment outburst. Throw in that he was more than likely quarantined for a year and he apologized and I’m willing to give him a break.

absolutely zero evidence anything like this ever happened in the past!

I’m warming up to this pickup.

Kofi is so dominant you tweak things to make it work, but from the 5 I think we need someone that can set screens, roll and catch lobs, rebound, and anchor the paint on defense. He seems to check all of those boxes and in all likelihood will be more ready to contribute than an incoming freshman with similar attributes.

We need at least one more impact wing from this recruiting cycle, preferably 2 now that Miller is gone.

Do Hawkins and Grandison play the 3 in that scenario with Curbelo, Burnette, and Hutcherson at the 1/2? I don’t hate the idea of a team like that.
Hawkins views himself as a 3, but personally I see him as a 4. Maybe a 3 down the road as he continues to develop, but not at this stage. I'm really hoping that he can carve out -- by earning it, of course -- 20 min at the 4 this upcoming year. Kid has tons of potential.

Is there a better set of complimentary names for a front court than “Cockburn” and “Payne?”

Hope he learned for the mistake, but it was a huge one.
That was a dirty play for sure, but I think our judgement of players if often shaded by their success on the basketball court and/or our relation to them. Shaq had plenty of disrespectful/dirty plays, but nobody remembers him for that, and there's plenty of other instances like this across basketball at all levels. One's a mistake, two's a pattern. I'm willing to welcome him with open arms and trust that was a bad mistake unless he proves otherwise.
