With TyTy and Payne's recruitment/transfer, can Underwood please stop the "I want character, not characters" narrative? C'mon now. Kids or not, there are hundreds that have not pulled the shenanigans these 2 have.
I think in the context of coaching BU is referring to work ethic. Guys who are committed to the game, the team, and getting better. Not just a bunch of choir boys.
The guy has 3 career technical fouls... That was the only time he has ever been ejected from a game.

You cannot judge a player’s character on what happens on the court. There are a lot of players I cannot stand how they play but are good people.

I am willing to give anyone a shot who is willing to play for Illinois

I am interested in who we get as guards next year. We are looking thin right now.

Like Jimmy Johnson says " choir boys dont win games" or something like that : )

As long as players dont go overboard it's ok to have an edge.

There have been a few comparisons of Payne and Tyty to DMW. I feel like almost every tech Damonte got was for going chin/chest first in a guy’s face, usually sticking up for a teammate. That’s not the same thing at all.
That said, I watched that TN-Fla game when it happened, and my first thought was how unlucky both guys were that a behind the back, blindly thrown elbow landed like that.

C'mon now....you're really going to take two incidents..one each...and slap a label on these two as "characters" engaged in "shenanigans" while throwing shade at BU and the staff?
Do you think maybe it's more hyper competitive 'heat of the moment' incidents from kids?

Should coaches just ignore every teenager that shows a moment or two of poor decision making? (teenagers? poor decision making? WHAT?)

Do you think maybe it's part of their role to help shape and mold these teens into young men that can make better decisions?

Apparently thats 3 more shenanigans then we should allow......sigh.

I hope Lieb sticks around. Seems like a classic developmental guy that is just too thin at the moment. But, he's really tall and long and seems to understand the game pretty well (based on limited court time). A "Wisconsin guy" that we've always lamented not getting. IF he can put on muscle, he could be a great backup big down the road. Plus I think there's a lot of intangible value for having some guys that stick around, develop within the system, and help the new recruits/transfers learn the ropes quickly.
I can see Lieb improving each year and playing a big role as a senior. Considering how he came in, I'd be surprised if he left.

1) I'm not the one who 'labels' the type of players they are building a team with 'character not characters'. BU says it, constantly. 3 weeks later, he adds a guy who was suspended, not just kicked out of a game.

2) Do you throw Mady Sissoko in with these guys too? "Heat of the moment incident"??? Most here still want his head on a platter (go review the last 4 pages of posts).

3) If a sucker punch in a handshake line isn't 'shenanigans', I don't know what is.

4) Payne threw 2 elbows, to the same guy. It looked pretty vicious to me.

5) I said nothing about a coach molding boys into men. Of course that's part of their role.

It's just my opinion these incidents were more than just chippy moments, they went overboard. When a player is on our team, we tend to justify. I get it.

So, when is Brandin McBuckets gonna pull the trigger? Before or after Franklin? ;)

Wow! Speaking of transfers, major problems at U of Cincinnati. SIX players have entered the transfer portal, and the head coach has been put on suspension while the upheaval is being investigated.
