Kofi looking like the uninterested girl at the club trying to get away from the guy who just dropped an awful pickup line.
Honestly, people might say the same of me and my husband if they saw us at dinner. Sometimes, folks just want to be on their phones.

Remember that a photo captures a moment in time. It's not always the best or most opportune one. If it were a video and it looked like he was avoiding him, I'd be worried. Finally, Geoff worked with him the most other than OA. He's a tie in to the last staff (other than Underwood) and probably the best one to approach him.

If the Wisconsin situation tells you anything, it’s that guys aren’t gonna stay just “because”. These guys could go make money elsewhere. Electing to return for a 5th year isn’t something you do because “you bleed orange and blue”.
Both have a full 4 years and then were gifted a 5th. You don't think it would be a bit odd to leave? I wouldn't say "bleed orange and blue" but for sure are "dug in"

Has anyone heard of Illini interest in Kevin Obanor, junior from Oral Roberts? 6'8" 225 lbs, nearly 19 pts, 10 rbs/game, 50% and 46% on 3s (making 2/game). Looks like one of the better ones left in the portal who have withdrawn from the draft. If he has already been discussed, sorry I guess I missed it.

Good grief. Did you not see how many times BU has been literally mugged on the sideline and in the locker room by these players??

He absolutely loves these kids...and they love him. It's blatantly obvious. BU's sincerity and seriousness come across very clearly to me. Don't think for one second that Chin was the sole reason Ayo came to Illinois. His family were very comfortable with BU, and that should say a lot, because that family was doing work for Ayo...not just promoting him. They were serious. All business.

Anyone questioning this needs to step off the ledge. None of what has happened this offseason even approaches a disaster or even "gone horribly wrong".

It's simply the New Age of CBB. Adjusting on the fly.

We've got a fantastic HC, and we are lucky JDubs swooped in to bring him home.

2 seniors who have been in the program all of Brad’s tenure elected to return. Evidence looks to be on his side
What evidence do you have outside of Kofi potentially leaving to be with the guy who, by all accounts, sounds like brought him here?
Seriously? Zero evidence that could possibly outweigh Trent and DaMonte?

JCL, Leron, Smith, Griffin, Tevian, Giorgi, and possibly Kofi?

So glad it’s him. If it were Cal, Orlando, Chin, Self, Izzo, Holtman, Howard, Smith, Jones, or my Johnson, Illinois Loyalty might lose a hell of a lot of its posters. As usual complain for the sake of complaining.
Wish it were one of them

JCL that transferred before being coached by Brad for a day?
Leron Black that went to pursue a pro career?
Tevian Jones that was getting 0 playing time?
Giorgi that is pursuing a pro career?

Seems like you’re stretching

BTM33: “As a long time Bulls fan, I fear BU has a Tom Thibodeau complex. Thibs was good with the media and NEVER publicly threw his players under the bus...he also was a b*tch to play for and still has a reputation of winning, but also being universally not fun to play for.”

Thus the added importance of only recruiting ‘Your’ kind of character player. The hard worker... sacrifice for the team types... the ‘be willing to accept criticism and hard love’ types... kind of player. These players have the fortitude to play for a good tough-love coach.

The hard-nose coaches are going to have to dial back the ‘not fun to play for’ aspects of their coaching style a bit. Many (most?) players now might be hesitant to join your program, and there is now even greater incentive to quickly leave if ‘things get too tough for me’ or ‘he didn’t appreciate me enough’.

Good coaches need to be demanding. But the best ones know how to get buy-in from players on ‘why’ they are ‘so tough’. Without the buy-in, it is failure in the making and lots of exits from the locker room door.

So just to fill you in on some information you seem to be forgetting:
JCL: John Groce recruit, never played for BU
Leron: left to go pro
Smith: John Groce recruit that BU convinced to stay. Note that BU had little time to recruit players that would fit in his system and was picking up shambles
Griffin: left to be closer to home - this usually means there’s something bigger than basketball at play
Tevian: kept breaking team rules…pretty sure that’s one the coaches recommended
Giorgi: is 22 and left to go pro so he can start earning
Kofi: was in the OP as “other than possibly Kofi”

I literally qualified my statement with the second paragraph haha please read my comments.
I read the whole post. My comments were about the advice to insiders about how they should present information, but they weren’t really intended to go hard at you specifically. Re-reading it looks like you were just trying to offer some friendly advice, that’s all cool. Sorry if I misunderstood the initial post. I still think the points still stand, though, for those coming hard at the insiders. This place is getting harder and harder to come to lately.

Investigating College Basketball’s Transfer Movement

The article is 3 years old, but I think the underlying data (2012-18) provides some good context for the realities of modern college basketball. In short, this is the norm.

"In the past six seasons, teams that have retained the same head coach have averaged 10.4 players transfer out of the university, while teams with two or three coaching changes have averaged 14.0 and 15.5 transfers over the six-year span, respectively."

Right now there is little issue with over promising because just like you don't know if the offer was low, you don't know that the high isn't realistic either. So for now, use it to your advantage not your disadvantage. Also, not saying do so long term. Right now there is a type of plausible deniability given the all the utter unknowns.
True, but that's more than a bit disingenuous, no? Yeah, you can (and probly should) apply a fudge factor, but multiplying your best estimate is likely to damage your credibility.

I totally respect you and this post but blah blah blah. He (they) are looking for high profile recruiters and money, not “behind the scenes” guys. It was nice to have him behind the scenes helping and was an added bonus. Not being the lead guy, if that is what he is
How do you know what they want? Are you in Kofi’s camp? Like what lol. Who else do you send other than the guy he is rumored to have a close relationship with

I mean, if it is a money race I imagine we will lose to Kentucky. I would bet the best chance to get Kofi back would be chance to improve and be a first round pick next year, and the guy that he trained with a lot seems to make quite a bit of sense for that.

This might be 100% correct. We could just be one of many teams that it just...happens to.

But I also think its fair to ask the questions, especially if Kofi leaves.

Have you seen the after game videos? The players aren't jumping in the asst coaches arms, they are showing the love to Brad.

Wrong on Smith. And I’m aware of everything else you state, which is not wrong. But many thanks for the non reminder.
