Tai Streets is the "streets" of Meanstreets. He went to Thornton HS (beat Kevin Garnett and Ronnie Fields in the state tourney), and he went to Michigan to play football. He played in the NFL. I can see why Michigan my be the favorite with AJ -- Streets pushing one of his best kids to his Alma Mater. Plus he and Juwan Howard are close in age, both Michigan alums, both from the Chicago area, and they probably know one another well. We don't seem to get Meanstreets' best players, save Kendrick Nunn. For those who are tied in to grassroots, travel basketball, is there an issue between Tai Streets and Illinois? Are we forever shut out as long Howard is the coach?

Good question. It appears to be more about aau team rivalries.

I'd be willing to bet there are similar basketball politics in other basketball hotbeds. We just hear a lot more about Chicago because it's 3 hours from campus.
Similar basketball politics between other hotbeds and their respective state school? I do admit I don't pay attention to recruiting at others schools, so Illini and Chicago is my only reference.

Payne updated his bio to say Illinois. It didn't before. This should provide comfort for those worried after Chin and Orlando became official.

Crystal Balls for TyTy now adding up for Kentucky - 3 more today after the assistant coaching announcement.

While those coaches were at Illinois, TyTy wasn't coming to Illinois. Now that they're at Kentucky... the feeling is that he's heading to UK. I wonder what's different.

Perhaps the grey area is slightly more grey in Lexington...

Only a 24 hour drive from Chandler, AZ to Lexington, KY!

Just a recruiting type of question. Is the transfer portal where a player does not have to sit out a year a permanent change, or is
it this year only? With all of the changes because of Covid-19 it is hard to be sure that a change like the transfer portal rule is
not just a one year deal. If this is a permanent change, that is going to make the job of recruiting responsibility far more involved
Suddenly, recruiting means high school, transfer portal, and keeping your own players out of the portal. Personally, I think the portal
is legally more in sync with society. The sit out a year punishment for transferring is a typical NCAA, don't rock the boat, butt head rule.
Free agency in professional sports was basically court imposed. I like "free agency" it keeps things interesting at the pro level. I don't like
the portal because I can see all sorts of abuse and problems with young players being pushed, but locking someone in a program
is not exactly a "freedom of choice" model. I am sure that someone on the forum knows the answer, so I thought that I would ask
the question.

im not worried about anyone who has already signed with us. what im worried about is a drop off in talent or getting kids that dont fit in or are not capable of living up to their rankings.

Not just this year only. Rule change was officially ratified last Wednesday.

Moving forward all student athletes will have one opportunity to transfer w/o a sit out year. Definitely going to change the way rosters are built and maintained. It shouldn't be quite as crazy as this year, as most of the players who aren't satisfied for one reason or another are in the portal now. My guess is that it is going to make it really hard for mid majors to hang onto under-rated players for more than a year or two.

I'll bet sacraig has done it in 23 hours. It's only 24 hours if you drive the speed limit. Maybe 23.5 hours if there's traffic somewhere. You can do it in 23 hours driving at most 5 miles over the speed limit. It's shorter if you live in the northern part of Chandler. I don't know if sacraig had a girlfriend in the suburbs of Lexington. :ROFLMAO:

Not just that scenario. Disgruntled players are gonna be moving on far more frequently, as they won't have to sit out a year (e.g. Adam Miller).

I thought the extra covid year could only be used at the current school. Does that apply to Mark Smith?

This year did not count toward eligibility for anyone, so Mark can play a 5th year. (Same with Alfonso Plummer for us) Players who transfer for their 5th year take up a scholarship at their new school. Guys like Trent and Demonte don't count toward our allotted scholarships.
