@illini0440 Antigua still selling Chet that he's the next Anthony Davis?
Lol.

His game should translate well to all levels of play (see final four run). He's a very efficient player, probably leads the nation in assists for centers, and is one of the most intelligent defenders in the nation leading the kenpom number 1 ranked defense. Hes obviously not as gifted athletically as Kofi and Mobley, but we take him 10 times out of 10.
Yep, total no-brainer. If the debate is between Krutwig or the Canadian 5 star, that's a different story.

Anyone know why Burnett left Texas Tech beyond personal reasons. According to Wikipedia, his mom started a Basketball Mom clothing line when he was about ten, and a reality show about “basketball moms of nba prodigies” when he was 14. That’s not to say she isn’t just a clever, entrepreneurial, and supportive mom... but it could also read as a Lavar Ball type headache. No judgement, just curiosity- any insights?
This is.... not really ideal. Of course means nothing about the kid but Brad doesn't strike me as the type of coach to put up with a super parent.

Is he much better than Giorgi? Would Giorgi put up those type of numbers in that conference that Krutwig does? Unless he has an outside jumper, seems like a wash. JMO.

We still need two Bigs regardless. If Giorgi is the starter, we need someone who can take 15-20+ minutes. Especially since Giorgi would likely be in foul trouble every game.

If Krutwig somehow some way did decide to come here next year we'd be legit a Top 5 team again pre-season. With Giorgi as our starting C we might be Top 20. Not a slight to Giorgi. Krutwig is just that good.

Gradey Dick a "22" set to decide tomorrow. We are in the final 8, any thoughts? We are thought to be in his top 2.

All of his CB's are high confidence to Kansas, doubt we have a chance

No one in particular in mind. But the staff knows of some guys who are intending to transfer and have interest in us.
I saw we get Charles Bassey from western Kentucky. Get the stealth operatives to work.

All of this was true when NB was still in high school and the staff was all in on him then.
I’m just saying I don’t love it. I’m sure his talent outweighs the risk but the “future nba prodigies” thing is especially cringy, and maybe explains how a 5 star prospect left after a few months at a good Texas Tech team.

I'll take anyone who can help cus keep a number next to our name. The culture of this program has changed vastly even since the Mark Smith days. If Brad wants him, I want him.

Plus we haven’t had anMcDAA since 2010. Think that’s distinction has lost a little bit of its luster, but with the culture we have in place I think you have to roll the dice on that kinda talent. Especially when you look at who Michigan and MSU are bringing in.

Re: Krutwig

First, I don’t understand where all this speculation is coming from. He’s the best player on a top 25ish team, close to home and has already played in a final four. Sure he could be looking for another challenge but it’s not obvious to me he’d be looking to transfer,

As far as fit, I do think he could help us some but not sure he fills a need. He’s a good passer out of the post so maybe we could run some more spread. Would probably fill sort of a Giorgi role and help us offensively.

But he’s not overly quick. He only averages 6.5 rebounds a game in the valley . I don’t see how he matches up favorably to a Williams or many other of the athletic bigs in the conference. I think he would struggle defensively.

With all of our backcourt talent, not sure we need offense from the 5. I would rather bring in someone who maybe is raw but can body up other bigs, can be a help defender, rebound, and catch lobs from Belo. A rich man’s Hamlin would be good enough, which is gettable I think.

Talented player but I think there are better fits, even assuming he’s interested in transferring.

FWIW....I have seen Krutwig several times. Can't imagine him joining the Illini next year or even entertaining the thought. Of course, I am likely wrong. He has a high IQ for a center, but his defensive athleticism and effect on the opposing offense is not in the same realm as Kofi. But he is quite a bit ahead of Kofi on the offensive end. If he were to join the Illini, it would leave them with two undersized centers and limit the inside defensive deterrent. Kinda of similar to Garza but plays much closer to the floor than the rim.

Is there something I’m missing with Krutwig? His conference big men opponents are not comparable to the big ten.

Backup qb syndrome.

Kids very good, but let's not get carried away.
Maybe, but the difference is we have seen Krutwig play many times in big games, the essence of "backup qb syndrom" is the guy on the sidelines is rumored to be better or looked better in pre-season..

Why for the past month do we keep talking about adding non-portal players ... I don't understand the incessant need to speculate ... not a good look for us or the player. Speculate and discuss team fit after player is in the portal.
