It's the staff that is overly optimistic, not the insiders. Unfortunately the staff seems unable to close many times or keep the foot on the gas. I'm sure they are elated to report the optimal result which our insiders hear - but its often premature.
Alright, I know this is a fool's errand but if Franklin, Burnett and TyTy all fall through does anyone have any info, thoughts or opinions on next available options for 2021 or transfer guards? This is the purpose of this thread, correct?

Very reasonable and well stated opinion....which doesn't usually go over well here.
Think most of us knew that it was going to be really hard to stay at the level we were at this year, but also so desperately want to stay in the top 5-6 in the Big Ten and start a run of being competitive in conference and an NCAA team year in and year out. Which can still happen, but it's going to take player development and one or two key additions from the portal. I'm on the optimistic side this will happen until BU and his staff give me reason not to be.
Nobody has ever said anything close to "We're getting Franklin for sure." If you don't exaggerate things people say here, you will have a better sense of balance.
Ehhhh I’m not complaining about it but I’m 99% sure I remember reading “Franklin will be an Illini” last week. Edit: I could be mistaken, but it sounded like a near lock

Yes Indy fan posted it would be done in the next couple days. It very much was hinted at.
I don't think BU posts on this board.....everything else is 2nd hand info and speculation, doesn't everyone know that by now?
Yes, and on this forum the more sure someone gets about a player being a done deal, the more I expect to hear it all falling through an hour before the player was going to commit.

It's like the boy who cried wolf, except it's the "insider" who cried wolf, and yet most of this board falls for it every time (quite often myself included).
And it rarely ends good for us. Its the Charlie Brown (us), Lucy (other teams) and the football (recruits) story. One day, we will kick the football on one of these battles.
A 1,000 players to choose form in the portal/ We will know more sometime next August when classes resume...it is going to take months for all the chips to fall into place for all schools

People act like the staff told us directly that any one prospect was a lock. It's also funny how bummed people get about recruits we miss out on last minute when we got on them last in the first place. No reason for doom and gloom when top 50 recruits are decommitting/transferring daily.

At least for good news things seem positive with Podz. If we just get him I like where we are for the next couple years if we can just get one more top level big added to the mix. Curbelo will be a star (on the level of Ayo, I believe), and we just need someone who can be our new Kofi.
There's no actual news. The insiders fill a void. I am glad for that, otherwise there'd be nothing to talk about except comparing Payne to DMFW and their respective "shenanigans." That being said, it'd be nice if one of these panned out. I didn't see a lot of chatter about Payne before he committed, so it's kind of funny that there's been so much inside information devoted to a slew of guys who likely will be playing elsewhere next year.

I have no information on the Franklin recruiting situation but wasn't this being much discussed on Saturday and Sunday on here? I mean, it's Monday morning....
The insiders give out info you wouldn't even know about if you stay off the recruiting site. just stay off. I love the insiders and don't hold them accountable or responsible for a recruit not picking us. Just like I don't blame Millers mom for Adam transferring I think its all on that players judgement. Very unpopular opinion: I'm fine with all of the above, as long as we're all also ok with pointing out how often insider info doesn't pan out, in a humorous manner. It's an internet message board everyone.
And I honestly don't even think it's that off-topic to talk about AM in response to posts about how Franklin is going to be a better player than AM. Now, charges of age discrimination in re: GIF usage...
I would expect many of our top targets would like to know, with relative certainty, if they’d be playing with Kofi next season.
