I posted a gif of “see you soon Franklin” because the staff was talking to him?

I guess that means “done deal” nowadays
I mean...that’s a fair assumption by anyone seeing that post. Certainly doesn’t scream: “conducted zoom call with prospective transfer.”

Like most on here, I appreciate the info those with closer ties to the program share no matter how overly enthusiastic it ends up being in hindsight.

Same. Why is TJD coming back? He’s got better pro chances than Kofi imo.
No he does not. Kid can’t hit a shot from more than 8 feet out and doesn’t the mobility to guard the wealth of stretch 4’s in the NB. There’s a reason I’ve never seen him in a recent mock higher than mid 2nd round

Anybody complaining about the "insiders" on this board needs to have a tough conversation with themselves. You're an Illini hoops fan that is STILL following this recruiting thread after a decade plus of this same thing happening over and over and over and over. A normal response to pain is to try avoid it in the future, yet you keep coming back for more. What does that make you? A masochist. A masochist for Illinois basketball recruiting. Time to accept the truth. I have, and I'm okay with it.

It’s all about setting expectations appropriately:

Have you seen Kofi higher than mid 2nd round?
I want to say NBA draft.net or whatever had Kofi in the first ten picks of the second round but that seems way too high for him in view of today’s NBA. I think we can all agree Kofi is a top ten pick if he was playing in the 90’s.

If he comes back, I think his stock improving is directly tied to his defensive metrics. More blocks and more boards (like 2.5 and 11-12 a game, respectively) probably means his name is called in the early second round/late first. I don’t see him expanding his shooting range in college because, frankly, he doesn’t need to in order to continue dominating.

I hope he comes back for many selfish reasons, his leap this year was amazing and I expect a similar one if he returns.

Or here's a crazy idea... You could have a separate thread dedicated to who had the better career instead of going off topic?
Sometimes, a conversations goes in a direction that remains only tangentially related to the initial topic, but people are still interested in pursuing that conversation. I don't see the harm, or the need for people who aren't interested to jump in with, "That Illini basketball post is in the wrong Illini basketball thread of this Illini basketball message board!"

For example, Adam Miller's departure, and what productivity the staff will have to replace, seems at least tangentially related to recruiting.

If Kofi's in the first round, then he is gone and good for him. Hopefully finish the 2021 class with another big and a backup point guard. I think that will be a solid team next year.

Is there a "gold standard" for these draft sites? That is to say, is there one I should "trust" more than another?
Just a guess but any site that has NBA attached should be good.

Many players who are good enough to be All Conference/All American are making money by the time they're Kofi's age. There's real money in the second round now, and you can improve your game coming off the bench in the NBA or in the G League just like you can in college, but without classes. I would love to see Kofi back, but I can't imagine how it would benefit him.

How upset can you be when the food you got dumpster diving had the wrong expiration date?

On the Kofi note, Ayo is a great sales pitch for him. Ayo stayed 1 more year and now has the chance to make millions.

Any info on Anthony Sayles? For those in the know, can he play point guard in the B1G? Will he chose basketball or football?

Yeah, I'd take that mock with a grain of salt after seeing Kofi ahead of Ayo. There are dozens of mock drafts out there, just like there are dozens of bracketologists in February and March.

Someone like Sam Vecenie over at The Athletic is highly respected and actually does in depth analysis of the prospects. He's also pretty well connected to scouts and others around the NBA. As of April 2nd, he has TJD at 55 and Kofi at 87.

This. TL/DR version: caveat emptor
