TJD has the full court press on Franklin. I think he thinks Illini is best for his future but is torn between friends/ loyalty and what he thinks is best for him.

Indiana has the upper hand. Familiarity with the players, school, homestate, etc. Illinois has to do double time with him.
1. Get him away from IU
2. Get him to U of I
(part 2 is the easy part)

We literally have this exact same "are insiders good?" and "what even is an insider?" conversation every year, right around this same slow period. I could live in a coal mine and know what season it is just from this thread. I love it. Don't ever change.

I would say it’s unusually for a player to enter the portal and then go back to the school they were set to leave.

A true Insider is someone who knows FOR SURE that x, y, or z IS going to happen. And it happens the way they said. Otherwise, one is a Speculator.

So, there are no issues with any (so-defined) Insider. Some may have issues with Speculators. But Speculators are probably not intending to deliberately mislead. What they are trying to do is to predict Human Behavior. And no one has yet come out with a fool-proof way of doing that.

And with the Transfer Portal now as active as it is, this shows that the young player himself made a decision to (initially) join a program that for whatever reason did not turn out the way he wanted. So, in that sense, the player is a Speculator as well. He tried to predict his own future but that future was not the one he predicted.

So that ought to make all this as clear as mud.

Uh... no.

Someone can absolutely be an "insider," i.e. someone who has access/connections with those inside the program, and still be wrong. Ultimately, an insider's information is only as good as the information their source has and how old it is. Brad Underwood himself could tell me that Recruit X was going to commit, probably in the next week or so, but that information could still change after he told me. That would make me an insider with out of date information, not a liar or a phony.

Note: I am not an insider. I just used this as an example. I have even less of a clue as to who is committing and when than most of you here. I am just here to post GIFs and sift through the endless noise about a topic I love.

I don't have any info but I thought this was appropriate for the current conversation!

And to further emphasize that point, Recruit X could have said to BU "I am going to commit to you next week", and that information can still change. That could be because he never believed it and said what BU wanted to hear, or because he later changed his mind, doesn't really matter, it still ended up being "wrong".

Honestly it's probably not uncommon in the case of a coaching change. If you are a player facing an uncertain coaching hire, it makes sense to enter the portal and let the new coach make his case while also entertaining other options. After all, the new regime isn't what you originally signed up for.

People on here act like the few people with sources on here are getting the info from the actual players :ROFLMAO:. Its the staffs version of how the recruitment is going and especially in this transfer portal, guys are literally having new zoom meetings every day.

Alright, I know this is a fool's errand but if Franklin, Burnett and TyTy all fall through does anyone have any info, thoughts or opinions on next available options for 2021 or transfer guards? This is the purpose of this thread, correct?
Tamar Bates & Jaylen Blakes are both names that are still on the board. Bates has said that he was hoping to play for an African American coach, so we'll see where he stands on that recently. Blakes is just sitting on the sideline waiting to see where the dominoes fall. I think he'd be thrilled if the IL PG/CG scholly fell his way, but just my opinion. Pitt in that recruitment as well

I thought we already offered blakes? was it not a committable offer?

Coaching change has everything to do with him entering the portal. A lot of pressure for him to stay at IU. I hope he chooses us by my $$ is on him staying put.

I'm honoring Sir Pruman 91 based on his tireless efforts to bring joy to the world and also
because of his advanced age and limited mental capacities notwithstanding.....this designation shall commence immediately, as time is running out soon.

Devin Askew of Kentucky to the portal, is he one of the bigun's we might be waiting for? #1 point guard for 2021 before reclassifying. Would love to have him.

We can do it in 3 easy steps!
1. Have Brad and Co reach out.
2. Tell Tyler he won't be playing next year.
3. Make sure no insiders say it's happening.

I certainly hope not. No offense to the young man, but he's a definite downgrade from Miller. He shot 34.5% (FG) and 27.8% (3PT). Not sure he's what the Illini want. And he's from Cali, so I'll guess he's planning to head back home to PAC-12 country.

Lander and TJD officially back at Indiana. Probably makes the Franklin decision that much harder.

Miller is not a point guard, he also reclassified, was really a senior in high school last year, had an on the job redshirt year as far I'm concerned. And taller. Go get em BU!
