A couple of years ago I watched a very good Virginia team play a very good Wisconsin team and it was one of the worst games I've ever seen. Ten guys wandering up the floor, holding the ball for 20 seconds, and only then attacking the basket. There were guys on both teams who were really good at basketball, and for the life of me I have no idea why Bennett and Gard went to such great lengths to prevent them from actually playing.

PASSING! Next step is finding open shooter for the easiest 3 when he is triple teamed, at least enough to keep the defense honest.

Just as remote as Miller and Curbelo being key contributors on a top 5 team as freshmen a year ago. Pretty remote.....

My point is that our staff gets paid millions of dollars for a reason, they're not just sitting on their a** texting recruits and praying that they end up here. We aren't going to be filling our roster with walk-ons and bums next year, no matter what a lot of posters on here evidently seem to think. As someone on here already well stated "its not about who you miss out on, it's who you land."

We are absolutely a better team next year with Miller than without. No reason to not to re-recruit him.

Him playing his entire college career here is also best case scenario for recruiting other high in state players.

I actually think it makes sense for him to come back. The non-sitout rule would still be in effect next year. If he's not happy after next season, fine transfer. But he has a chance to be the main scorer on this team. Should be a great opportunity to showcase yourself in a system you already know, with some players you're already comfortable with.

Curbelo is a roundball savant. Coach has called him this. The Beloved is fortunate to have him.

But, the fact that he IS a savant may be scaring off some of the guys who The Beloved have targeted lately. A common narrative is that, “Who wouldn’t want to play with a guy like Curbelo?”. Well, apparently someone who wants the ball in his own hands and doesn’t want to compete with a savant for the ball and for attention.

But there is nothing more fun on the floor than playing with a guy like Curbelo. He sees things that others don’t. He makes passes and plays that others can’t. Whether a guy is a 2 or 3 star or whatever he is, if he can put the ball in the bucket then Belo will get him the rock and this will elevate everyone on the floor. And if those who play with Belo can play inspired defense, then Coach will love him. And the Illini will play a fun brand of ball and get past the Round of 32.

The Illini offer a great basketball culture and a Savant on the floor. Anyone who doesn’t want to play in that kind of environment is missing out on a great opportunity.

maybe that’s selfish of me. But I really like the kid and loved his game.
Ironic that what I liked most was that he seemed to be team first. Willing to do what the team needed. Played great defense. Hustled, dove for loose balls. Etc.

I never ever got the feels that he was upset about his role with the team.

I think he’s a big time player for us the next 2-3 years if he stays.

Does anyone still think we have a legitimate shot with Tyty? Honestly, I don't, but I don't "know" anything. I just don't see how we would be a fit from his perspective. The only thing we actually know for sure about the 2021-22 Illini is that Andre Curbelo will start at PG. If I were Tyty, I would be looking to be the man with the ball from day one. I see no reason for a PG of his caliber to settle for anything less.

He would obviously play, and we would all be overjoyed to land him. I just don't see why HE would do it.

Convince me.... please...

It makes sense why some high profile guards would be scared off. Any big man in the country should be salivating at the prospect of playing with curbelo

I hope he comes back, but at least as employment is concerned once an employee is out the door, it doesn't matter if the business gives them a decent counter-offer. Once they have made the decision to leave they're usually gone within 1 year. In his situation this could be different if he made the decision because of outside pressures and has decided to make his own decisions in coming back.
