would better ACs have helped KJ cut down his turnovers? Morez's penchant for fouling? I could go on, but I'll spare you

just to be clear, I'm all for great XO ACs. but it seems like a chunk of the fanbase thinks that's gonna solve all problems, known and unknown (lol)
In a large part, no. Btw, I never liked a roster led by one-and-done freshmen (Europeans included) unless they are Cooper Flagg or Dylan Harper. Like you said, you could not fix those freshman problems in one year. That is not to say I am against one and done recruits. I simply prefer at least my alpha is an experienced player. I don't blame Brad for that tho simply b/c a top portal player is hard to come by these days.

I never said XO will solve all problems and I think you are over reacting. I simply think we should fix the problems we could to give us a better chance. Perhaps a better defense last year could propel us beyond UK? We wouldn't know but at least it could have been a closer game. I am fond of Brad and I hope XO upgrade is a relatively easy fix.

point taken, and VG elaboration on your points.

reliance on 1ADs is a double edged sword the vast majority of the time, fully agree. but we were facing wholesale departures (i.e. the cupboard was bare). considering that, we cobbled together a pretty good team. if we hadn't been racked by injuries/sickness, we would've done better

During Mike White era B10 ruled Dave Wilson ineligible (they confused his transcript with another Dave Wilson). Illinois went local court got an injuction so he could play. B10 retaliated by fining Illinois. Illinois state legislator retaliated by setting up special lottery to benefit University.

There was talk we would quit B10 to join B8. Then there would be two Big 9's.

University learned lesson not to fight B10. So we accepted Deon Thomas punishment even though it was not thought be true. Illinois basketball was on a roll after flying Illni. Probation cost us Cuonzo Martin and Juwon Howard (maybe not as Michigan booster paid Fab5 well. Lou's next 10 years would have been very different.

For KJ, yes, it would have cut down his turnovers. We had no real answer to the high ball hedge for far too long. Even still, KJ post-injury was weak with the ball far too often.

Yes I believe better ACs could have helped both players. "Direct intervention" AC coaching and perhaps adjusted offensive and defensive schemes could have helped both KJ and Morez be more effective on the floor and reduced their issues.
