Quentin Coleman — why is there such disparity with the composite?

View attachment 49038

ESPN has him #30.

On3 has him #20.

On3 industry has him #32.

247 has him #34.

247composite has him #91 ??

after how they ranked/rated Wagler, WTF are we doing here?

the sample size with Coleman is good, his play has been pretty consistently stellar and his trajectory has been VG. he's got it going on. big-time want!

I don’t follow the rankings … But I watch a LOT of film and HS games …

Kid is certified top 25 … 5 star caliber …
Here’s his description (per Adam F. on 247):

“Coleman is a skilled and smooth guard who can really shoot the basketball. He has a virtually pure release that is ultra-fluid with good loft and rotation. He made 39% of his threes during the EYBL season and showed versatility in his shot-making profile. He has obvious gravity spotting up, really understands how to space the floor, and has a complementing one dribble pull-up. With his high school team though, we get to see more dynamic shot-making. He flies off different types of screening action, creates space with his step-backs, and shows deep range.

While Coleman played almost exclusively off the ball in the EYBL season, and was very efficient in that role, he gets to do more with the ball in the winter. He's a comfortable handler who can make plays with the ball and rarely gets sped up. He's not necessarily a flashy passer, but reliable, with an almost 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio in EYBL play, and untapped upside as he continues to develop his ability to make reads on the move and adds more layers to his passing skills.

Physically, Coleman has solid positional size at 6-foot-3, and is now starting to fill-out a previously undeveloped frame. He's starting to sprint the floor and move with more pace as his body evolves. He's also a good perimeter rebounder who isn't afraid to stick his nose into traffic. While he shows some tough lay-up making ability when he has space to navigate the lane, he can struggle through contact in the paint when the game slows down. As he continues to fill-out his frame, that could evolve, and take his playmaking potency to new levels.“

Anyone know specifically what Coleman would bring?

Great ballhandler? Can he "booty" ball?
Three-point shooter? Athleticism? Defender?

I still think they need a KB-type. Ballhandler with great potential to shut an opponent diwn.

Being from St Louis, I saw him a few times. Really has blown up lately. Smart player, high IQ, doesn’t over do it, plays in a strong structured, efficient, intense program coached by ex Webster Groves coaching legend Jay Blossom (who coached Courtney Ramey, Carte’Are Gordon among others). I’ve always compared him to Scottie Adkinson , the all state player from Webster going to Mizzou. Same size, same skills. Both attack the basket as a combo guard, can play above the rim, excellent 2 point shooters, solid 3 point shooters. Dawgs on the defensive side. Only thing is that Coleman’s team was in a class smaller than Adkinson’s. So some of their competition was meh. But Blossom made sure to schedule a national non local schedule, and Coleman just showed out. Kid can ball.

Coleman shredded it in AAU ball for 2 consecutive summers too. pretty sure his team won titles both years on their circuit

We need a stud point guard not a backup. Return our 5 and add Coleman and a stud PG and are in good shape.
Lucas Murrillo is pretty damn good. He is going to play for team World in the Nike Hoop Summit. Same game that had the Boozers, AJ, Mirk, Sarr and other power 5 starters that are still playing!
I don't think Morillo is a point guard.

It's not unreasonable to think we'll get at least one "stud" player from the portal.

2022 - Plummer
2023 - Shannon and Mayer
2024 - Domask
2025 - Boswell (and KJ and Riley though they weren't portal additions)
2026 - Stojakovic

If we return Stoj, Mirk, the twins (by no means claiming that's a forgone conclusion)... then the obvious spot for that "stud" addition would be at PG. Cox from Colgate would be a good option.

Well, you never know.

We didn't get a "stud point guard" last year. We got a "Keaton Wagler" instead.

That seems to be working out well so far.
First of all, we had a really good pg returning in Boswell. If you go into a season thinking a 3/4 star freshman is going to be 1st team all big ten then you are going to have a disappointing 99 out of 100 seasons. The staff is not going to put next season with final four potential in the hands of a freshman. We need to go find Boswell or better for next season.

Read an article about Coleman after he scored 50 points in Missouri state tournament game...........very complimentary of him as a player and a person........unselfish player capable of big games when needed..............I got a feeling he will commit during his current official visit.....whether it is officially announced is another question with all the F4 hub-bub going on.......JMHO................

If you somehow can retain Stojakovic, Mirk, and the twins and have enough money to add I think you have to complement them with athletic guards and go all in.

Would love Alex Wilkins from Furman(stupid quick, good positional size, and can shoot) paired with a veteran guard would be a good stat.

Grabbing a defender like Miles Byrd would be awesome.

Have to assume Doty will follow Mcnamara but love his game. Christian Bliss from Delaware is a well rounded bigger guard than can do a bit of everything(not fantastic defensively but can shoot, facilitate, and rebound).

I'm sure Brad and Tyler would salivate over Jake Hall(New Mexico) but that kid is going to get paid.

Will get a much better idea when the season is over and the portal opens but I think if you can pair some big athletic guards that can get out and get some easy baskets in transition with that core(easier said than done) you could really complement the returnees.
