Illinois XC 2016

Roy Griak is this weekend. Big meet for both the men and women with 5+ B1G teams on the course that will hold conference later this fall.

Men are currently ranked 4th in their Regional. Griak has a very deep field, which should give the men some good chances for KOLA points.

Bump as the men qualified for nationals last weekend.

The qualification process is a little strange but the short story is that they took third at regionals in front of a highly ranked Iowa State team which caused them to be pushed into nationals as an at-large selection. This also got them back into the rankings at 24.

They had a couple rough meets, including conference. But they were able to perform when it mattered most.

23rd in the nation. They return a lot of runners, with runners 2-5 all being freshman or sophomores.

Wisconsin was 8th, MSU was 20th for the B1G on the men's side.

On the women's side, Michigan took 2nd by the slimmest of possible margins. They lost by 1 point to Oregon with the Oregon 5th runner beating Michigan's 5th runner by 0.1 seconds to clinch the win. Michigan's Finn was 2nd overall.

MSU was 8th, Wisconsin 14th, and Penn State 18th.

Men's cross-country program is really on the upswing. Jake Stewart seems to be the right man for the job.

Too bad the women's team couldn't keep Karen Harvey. They have never recovered since she left. There is no excuse for them being at the bottom of the conference year-after-year with all the talent in state and around the Midwest.
