I have no problem with the D playcalling until the end.
QB position---DeVito is a competitor. He has a good sense of the pocket and and when to take off. He was off a bit at times and had a number of throws that were caught and dropped but thrown a bit behind the receiver. Not a bad game but a blah game, moved the chains a bunch but didn't translate into points. WR position- --IW is an incredible athlete. He just needs the ball in his hands. He needs to slow down and make the catch first. Had a few bobbles both weeks now. Little baffled that we went away from Bryant(can throw in Hightower if want). Good size and looked open a few times. Beatty needs to see more action as well. More threats on the field and getting IW the ball becomes easier. RB---Not much to say about Chase Brown. Elite RB who just has great insticts. I only have one beef with the running game. McCray is out and we need more production behind Brown. BB knows the team, JMO but I would like to see Aidan Laughery be RB #3 on the depth chart. Have no problem with Love or Hayden getting some touches but I just don't see a consistent "it" factor in either one of them. Defense----Got smoked for 3 big plays in the first half. Two bad punts and turnovers hurt us. Settled down in 2nd half and looked incredible until that last prevent D drive. Indiana is a one trick pony and we couldn't stop them. Bazelak threw for 330 yards against us and hit some wide open receivers. I thought our playcalling was a little suspect at times in the 2nd half. Hard to do but Indiana was trying to contain Brown and IW in the 2nd half. I want the ball in Brown and IW hands the most but I could almost predict what they were going to call just from the sets I saw. If I can see it than Indiana could as well. I have no problem with the D playcalling until the end. I know you have to change it up a bit on last drive but if they are going to score, play less prevent and if they score over the top on you than so be it and you have more time for the offense with 2 timeouts left. Illinois started last season 1-4 last season and finished 5-7. This was a tough game to give away but am here for the long run. Have a big chore next game against Virginia and Brennan Armstrong. Amazing gunslinger who I am going to block out of my head until closer to game time.
