Michigan has the killer instinct that we're lacking.
LOL at killer instinct on Jan. 6. Yeah they've played inferior teams and all but two games at home. They are not this good and they don't have any killer instinct.

Based on what I've seen so far, Michigan doesn't let up for stretches like we are prone to do. We're statistically similar teams, but I think they have an x-factor advantage over us right now.

If we were to play a neutral site game against them tomorrow, I would pick them to win.

Edit: Michigan has jumped us in both Kenpom and Torvik after today's game.

It is the first week in January and they have played two road games against Nebraska who stinks and Maryland is just barely above stinks. They beat NW and Minny at home as their best wins. I don't know how good those teams are at this point because it is too early in the season to sit here and say those are very good wins. I'm not impressed by them at all especially to say they have some x-factor advantage. They don't have any x-factor advantage. They've had a very favorable so far and taken advantage of it. That's the only x-factor advantage I see. Let's see how they are as the season progresses..

Yes they have looked good at home. To say they have the killer instinct is a little premature. We will see how their freshman big guy does after Kofi pounds on him for 30 minutes. I personally think we are still the better overall team. Time will tell I guess.

We'll see how good Michigan is as the season progresses....but their point guard Smith is pretty darn good....keep him from getting to the paint and that stalls their offense somewhat.....comparable to Curbelo and the Illini....Michigan and Illinois will be a good matchup wherever they play....not liking the one play at Michigan in mid February however, could be a huge game in determining B10 top spot

Strength vs strength, I like how we match up with Michigan at every position...with the exception of Wagner. He's better at getting his own shot and creating offensive opportunities for others than DMFW, with Damonte being the being defender and rebounder.

I'm not sure if it's they don't let up for stretches, or they haven't faced as tough of defenses as we have that have been able to put the clamps on us for periods of time. A lot of scoring droughts we have had can be attributed to stellar defense, not because we just let up. I do realize there are times, especially against weaker teams it seems, that we do seem to let up some.

Quality depth and fatigue might have something to do with killer instinct appearance IMO. Illini depth appears to be growing with plenty of firepower availabel to allow for rest for most impactful players with more 3-4 minute role players available. Even a well timed 1 or 2 minutes of gametime around TV or team timeouts can be beneficial , especially to shooting and pressure defense. Underwoods use of situational subs in last few minutes of games has been good as well. I...L...L...
