Manny Pacquiao

Undefeated Australian fighter Jeff Horn just upset Manny Pacquiao in a WBO Welterweight Championship fight tonight in Brisbane (early PM in Australia). Horn won by unanimous decision (two judges had it 115-113, third judge had it 117-111).

The fight was very close but based on what I watched in the fight, I figured Pacquiao would have won this one. Especially when Pacquiao nearly had this won by TKO after the 9th round.

This match was noteworthy enough as it was a non-PPV fight airing tonight on ESPN but this decision makes it an even more interesting one.

And Teddy Atlas was having nothing to do at the end of the broadcast with the judges scoring based on what he saw.

I am not a boxing expert or even so much of a fan at all but I watched this one because of the name recognition and the fact that it was free on ESPN, it was good to see high level boxing on free tv.

As to the result it seems like it was a double edged sword for the sport. It got everyone talking about the result, no way imo that Pacquiao lost 117-111, but everyone was also talking about this is why people don't watch boxing since it is rigged. I

It is hard to grow the brand when people think that the outcome is prearranged.
