Today showed some of the lack of current quality depth in the Illini squad (recruiting will help here). MSU did a good job exposing the replacements. Thorne got the ball out of his hands quick, which is what other opponents struggled at. Many times this year open receivers were missed because of dline pressure. Thorne beat it for the eventual game winning td in 2nd half. MSU does have some quality depth, and it showed. Disappointing to lose a very winnable game, but the 50/50 plays went the Spartan's way. Countless times Illini were pinned deep by bounces or missed calls (most glaringly the missed PI call right before the shanked punt). Unlike others on this board, i do not think Illini looked a week ahead. The execution on offense hurt at key points, and special teams execution were really pourous. This team still grinded late, and that is what you want to see. Illini still control the destiny in the West. Clean up the execution issues, and Illini should get to 9-3 and a trip to Indy. The direction is still pointed up, despite this setback. I trust Coach B will have this team super motivated all week. I just hope the fans don't bail ship after this loss. Pack the stadium next week!
