At a certain point, I fear this will be a pretty embarrassing look for our fan base if we keep winning.
Well if you think that the certain point is some time this year, then prepare to be embarrassed. I have my doubts that even at 8-1, that the Purdue game will be sold out. I do think next year we’ll see a sellout(s) when the season ticket base has grown.

To be honest the lack of understanding and/or commitment from the fans that DO attend to stand up and/or make noise when we are on defense is already embarrassing. I was at the game on Saturday and had to implore people to cheer on the 4th and 1 when the backup QB bobbled the snap. That and cheering when we are on offense for a crucial play…

This might be an unpopular take but I don't think this is just a football problem although it's way worse in football. While we had a full house vs Iowa in March to win the big ten, the atmosphere was somewhat disappointing... although I would have been fine not sitting down the entire game and I didn't have a voice when we left so maybe I'm the one who isn't normal 🤔

Take a deep breath and relax. Winning takes care of a lot of ills. It's been years since we were even considered relevant. If we continue to win, season ticket sales will go through the roof. That's when we will see maximum capacity because a lot of alumni from Chicago and Indy areas will start to wake up. I work with an ex student and big fan who is going to Vegas for the b-ball tourney. She can't believe this is happening and is still in shock and awe. Right now, enjoy the ride. We are going to win some more ball games and possibly lose one or two to really good teams. My question right now is this. I wonder how the t.v. ratings have done with Illini football over the past 3 weeks. That could be a big sign of things to come. As far as sale outs this year, I am inclined to believe that Purdue will be the big one if we can beat Nebby on the road.

After reading the whole thread , the majority of posts in this thread regarding attendance are somewhat true and spot on.......I would advise that years and years of disappointing season results and embarrassing defeats has numbed a lot of the people that want to come and watch a game live.... I can understand the apprehension in spending hard earned $$$ for a mediocre , at best , status quo of the Illini teams in the past 10-15 years.......The age of selling out Memorial Stadium could be at hand IF , and only if , we continue to see the great performance's like we all have seen this year.......

The key to having sellout's as a norm is in the number of season ticketholders , as has been posted in this thread before........I imagine there will be a healthy boost in that number next season based on this season's record so far ........I sincerely hope we can continue to rise in national recognition and that will WANT people to be in the stands and cheer on the beloved........Rome wasn't built in a day and Illini sellouts won't be either..............I like all the opinions professed about the remodeling needs of the stadium and it seems that the University is finally taking a hands on approach to filling the seats with the numerous ticket price reducing promo's .........

It will come in time and I will love being able to see a full house as I watch the games here in Paducah ......I have talked to NL # 3 about a road trip to see the Illini and she is all in .......My medical issues are somewhat hindering the thought of said road trip right now , but my optimistic nature is open to enduring the pain as i know the experience will outweigh the pain many fold....................

For now , I will be front and center at my cpu watching online and listening to Brian B. and crew as this has been such a magical season so far and I believe will continue as the Illini improve on our W-L record and rankings.........................

Color me O & B to the bone...............I really really am.............................

I-N-!!! Just got my 4 tickets as well. The lower bowl seats were moving fast - several times they were gone by the time I went to my cart and I had to start over. Worth noting 11/5 is also Dad's Day, and with the team playing the way it is, we could get some folks that wouldn't normally come to a game.

Where were you sitting? I was in 103 in the East and just about everyone was standing and making noise when Hell's Bells started each 3rd Down. It was a great environment that should continue to get better!

If we win the next two and the game against Purdue is to essentially decide the winner of the west, gotta assume that game gets our best attendance of the year, no?

I can tell you this much: there will be two more at the Purdue game than were going to be there a couple hours ago. I just booked flights and a room at the Union for my 10-year-old son and I. My first time back to Champaign since joining the military almost 12 years ago. I am pumped!

I have watched Purdue rebuild home FB attendance since they hired Jeff Brohm in 2017 (my kids were there). At first, in 2019 it was a sellout or two in a rivalry game. We don't have any of those. Then Purdue had a good crowd after winning a big game (OSU or Iowa), but lost that game and attendance waned a bit. Then last year they broke through at 8-4 and this year are finally getting consistent attendance-wise in Brohm's year 6 - but still only 2 sell-outs so far this year.

It takes time to build. Of course, part of Purdue's problem has been self inflicted - they jacked up parking and ticket prices after one halfway decent season.

That does not surprise me. We have someone in the Memorial Stadium Game Day Experience thread calling people who stand up during the game "self-centered discourteous morons" who need to "show some class and manners," so we're fighting a bit of an uphill battle to remind our fans this whole attending a sporting event thing is supposed to be both fun and interactive.
