I'm actually looking forward to the possibility of a Warriors-Spurs playoff series.
I find it amazing that the Spurs are - by pretty much any measure you want to use - having one of the greatest regular seasons in NBA history, and are being completely forgotten about. Credit Golden State for their historic season, but these are the Spurs we're talking about.
Both teams are on pace to win 68 games in the regular season. The only two teams that have ever won that many were the '96 and '97 Bulls.
By win percentage the Warriors and Spurs are on pace to be the 1st and 6th best regular season teams of all-time. This would be the best pair of teams in a single season ever. The previous best were the '09 Lakers (66-16, Kobe, Gasol, et.) and Cavs (65-17, Lebron). Those Cavs were, of course, upset by the Magic (Howard) in the conference finals and we didn't get to see those teams square off in the playoffs.
The best two regular season teams to meet in the playoffs were the '96 Bulls (duh!) and Sonics (Payton, Kemp, etc.). The best two regular season teams to meet in the conference finals were the '72 Bucks (Kareem, Oscar, Dandridge) and Lakers (Wilt, West, Goodrich). Those Lakers took a excellent Knicks team (Walt, Earl, Debusschere, Bradley, etc.) in 5 in the Finals.
So, anyway you slice it, if the Warriors and Spurs can avoid injury and upset, the West Conference Finals should be one of the all-time greats. Then seeing one of those teams pasting a seemingly disinterested/dysfunctional Cavs team will be fun.
