ILLINI are in the hunt for another BIG golf championship.
But my alma mater, NIU, finished second to Kent State at MAC Championship this weekend. Had Huskies won it, they would have earned an automatic berth into an NCAA regional.
I tried to console someone on NIU staff that there was no disgrace: Kent State is a great golf program, and Kent State beat Illinois a few weeks ago at Boilermaker Invitational!
That's golf, I guess.
But NIU can practice at Kishwaukee Country Club in DeKalb or get really serious at its home course - Rich Harvest Farms. Yikes! Unique selling difference or propositon and bodes well for NIU golf success. I hope.
