$13,600 per seat to renovate. (In case you're wondering, Illini renovations were $11k). Also, naming rights were $60 mil, about $4k per seat.

It's still surprising to me what a big business college sports have become.

It will be interesting to watch what happens to the Northwestern basketball ticket prices after the renovation is completed and how many season ticket holders drop out for the 2017 – 2018 season.

Because of their $110 million upgrade of Welsh-Ryan, the men will play the 2017-18 season in Rosemont. Some of us might find that to be an easier trip, some will find it worse.

p.s. The Greenstein byline says he is a "contact reporter". Contract? or does he really have contact? seems like an odd title to me.

It's contact. An avenue for contacting the author. Standard stuff for Trib articles.

Dollars to donuts, Chrissie will want to get out of Dodge before the switcheroo happens. Allstate is a dump.

I think I once saw a Chicago Sting game there, if that means anything to anyone any more. Shows how old the stadium is (okay and me too).

I caught an errant soccer ball into the crowd at a Sting game! Totally forgot them...

I doubt if you will see $7/tickets.

This is my favorite concert memory from the Allstate Arena. I caught one of James' picks during their encore of Seek & Destroy.

This might be better for some of the Alumni, but this can't be good for student attendance. Of course the trade-off is a more modern arena so I see why they are doing it. By modern I mean the renovated Welsh-Ryan nor Allstate.

Traffic will be a nightmare I'm sure (I lived in Evanston for a couple of years), but I'm not sure they have many other choices. The UC is only a bit further (time-wise), but much more variable, iirc. (and probably a lot more expensive to rent).

I would assume that the DIA will give the students a lot of free tickets and bus them to the arena. Probably most of the pre-B1G games will be very sparsely attended by students and fans since those games are terrible cup-cake games. Next year the DePaul Northwestern game will probably be played at DePaul and the ACC challenge game will be an away game or Northwestern will not have an ACC challenge game scheduled. I bet the arena will have large visitor crowds and small Northwestern crowds.

Schaumburg's Big Ten team??

Rosemont's?

This quote is also utterly laughable: “The venue has a rich college basketball tradition in the Chicagoland area,” Northwestern athletic director Jim Phillips said in a press release. “I know that our fans will enjoy cheering on our team at Allstate Arena.”

He'd be better off saying "It isn't ideal".

Also, does anyone else feel like NU's renderings are pretty underwhelming given the $$$ involved? Really not being a homer here either, I live a hell of a lot closer to Evanston than Champaign so I'd love it if they had a decent arena.

For the record, I realize that Allstate Arena is in Rosemont, not Schaumburg. Just my way of poking fun at the geographically challenged marketing folks of the DIA at Northwestern University (which is in Evanston, not Chicago)
