Update: Numerous outlets have confirmed that Notre Dame of their intention to leave the conference. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune has confirmed with the Big Ten that Notre Dame will be joining the conference.

More surprising to me is that ASU is expected to join the B1G hockey conference as well.

With rumors trending towards Arizona State ending up as a member of the Big Ten Conference, speculation increased as to which program would join the Sun Devils to give the Big Ten an even number of teams.

Notre Dame makes complete sense geographically, but ASU?!?!?

As a one off (e.g. Johns Hopkins in lacrosse), it makes sense. Although somewhat surprised the conference didn't tell ND to sod off.

ASU? No clue what's going on there. Assume it's another one off.

Here's an good article about the move: http://frankthetank.me

I just did an internet search for that Illinois Chewbacca Star Wars shirt shown on the Frank the Tank site with no luck. :tsk:

Pretty much. Only other conference that's close to them in terms of geography is the NCHC with the closest colleges in that conference to them being Colorado College and the University of Denver.

They're gonna be hella road trips. Conversely, I think the real BIG teams are going to love their ASU trips.

Surely Khan is a big hockey nut. When's our new hockey arena groundbreaking?
