Is it just me, or does it seem like guys are hitting less opposite field home runs nowadays in MLB?

I don't know. I haven't seen any commentary on it.

Here's an article on the subject. But it's from 2009.

Part of it may be that two of the greatest oppo-field home run hitters of all time - Ryan Howard and Derek Jeter - recently retired.

Could be fewer steroids in the game versus 10-15 years ago. Could be more relievers throwing close to 100.

Maybe it is just me. It could be because I watch so much of the Cubs and both Rizzo and Bryant rarely, if ever, hit it out to the opposite field.

Of course Javy Baez hits one to the opposite field a game or two ago. I don't recall the last one I'd seen before that.

Went digging for info on Mike Trout's home run spray chart. It seemed to me he takes a bunch out to right center, and any reason is a good reason to look up Mike Trout stats. He's generational.

But I found something somehow even more fun. Video links to all too; so if you want to see Mike Trout hit a ball with an exit velocity of 120 mph from last year, it's a click away. Goodbye afternoon.

With the big focus on launch angles and getting the barrel through the zone results in more balls being pulled. Hitters aren't really looking to let the ball get deep like the old way was taught. Such as hit a ball inside at the front of the plate, hit a ball down the middle over the middle of the plate, and hit a ball away at the back corner of the plate. Barrels stay on plane for a lot longer time than they used to so hitters are not letting the ball get past that middle part very often.

Funny, I was going to say I thought there were more. Just saw Jose Altuve hit at least one so far this year and he's about 5'5". I just did a search and didn't find anything of substance.

Cubs hit 2 more to the opposite field in Coors last night. Hilarious.

Sorry, but I do not think either of those guys are even remotely "the greatest oppo-field home run hitters of all time".
