Oregon 38, Illinois 9 Postgame

This one was painful.

The State of Oregon motto is, “She Flies With Her Own Wings”. And that certainly was the case on a sunlit football field in October in a State of Tall Timber.

The Illini were taken to gridrion school in a Yellow-and-Black hued Schoolhouse and taught by a bunch of Powerful Ducks what high-flying is all about.

The Illini – while solidly within the Big Ten Middle Pack of footballers – haven’t shown the talent yet to climb into the ‘Tens’ elite.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers put up a much better fight against a Big Ten Power today than Our Beloveds. And the Huskers could easily have knocked them off.

Not so for our White-and-Orange today. Dazed and confused by swarming Ducks flying at and around them as the webbish hosts looked every bit the part of being the Nation’s Number One Team.

This one was never in doubt. The Ducks jumped right on top of the Illini from the opening and never looked back. Are the Ducks that good and the Illini just had an off-day? Seems like a little of both, at the very least.

The Illini will return back to the Prairie State with justifiable respect for a new Big Ten opponent. And Oregon has not yet seen the best from Illinois and must wait for another day.

One thing is for sure. The Illini don’t want to return home and look up into the Prairie’s skies and see any more Ducks flying around for a while... Yellow and Black or Green ones or any other color. They’ve seen enough to last them to Halloween Night.

well, that was about as bad as it could get. We get destroyed on the scoreboard and we ended up with a few key injuries.

We will not see a better team the rest of the year. Stinks to not look competitive in the first half, but that was elite on the other side (in their house with favorable officials). Really not an unexpected outcome, and the crazy thing was a backdoor cover was possible late in the 4th.

Illinois should be favored or coin flip in every game the rest of the way. Protect home field the next two weeks, and a 10 win season is still possible. Pack Memorial Stadium next week!
