1. Well, it was not a thing of beauty, but it was a hard fought competitive game. Neither team gave up and both teams were dog tired at the end. The Illini and Penn State continue to play close games, which is probably a bad thing everything considered. 2. Obviously a tremendous effort by Malcolm Hill. His quiet demeanor on the court probably distracts from the fact that he is an absolute workhorse much of the time, and he certainly has a lot of talent. There was nothing cheap about his stats in this game. 3. Kendrick Nunn struggled in this one, and Mav came back to Earth. We just won't win very often when Kendrick shoots 3 of 15 from the field, though his 9 rebounds did help us to outrebound Penn State. 4. JCL contributed with some decent play, but Finke was basically AWOL in this one. We need these two to be positive factors in a game like this. 5. The guy who really turned it on late in the game was Khalid Lewis. He not only showed a bit more offense, but he was a major factor on defense in crunch time. 6. Penn State ended up with 8 blocks in the game, and that did play a role in the outcome. We need to get a rim protector again. It does make a difference on defense, and Dickerson was a big factor (literally) in the game. 7. His stat line was not impressive, but DJW keeps showing those flashes of major talent. It will be interesting to see what kind of a sophomore leap he makes. 8. In a shocking development, the worst 3-point shooting team in the conference ended up at 10 of 23 for 43.5% from three in a double overtime game. Who would have thought anyone could do that against us. 9. The good news is that we play Minny next. The better news is that this regular season is over. Our last 13-win team actually went on a tear and made it to the BTT Finals. Somehow I don't think this one will. Go Illini!
