Hawaii plays Portland State at home this Friday (tomorrow). They play at Illinois Monday, then go back to Hawaii to host New Orleans the following Sunday. That is an awfully long and I would guess expensive trip for just one game. Wonder what kind of guarantee Illinois is giving them for the visit.

They agreed to sit through a time share presentation!

Lmao...you can't make this weird stuff up.....

So after I post the time share remark...I head to the gym. They have Windy City Live playing on the TV and they are interviewing a guy with a company that helps you legally get out of your....unwanted time share!

i like it. Have they practiced it though?

No idea, but most coaches at least "experiment" using different zones in practice if they use them at all. Used to go from one to another to man to man in practices to see/get a feel for movement if nothing else.

Hoping we start to see the signs of them coming together as a team on both sides of the ball. I know we will be a work in progress for a while yet, but we also can’t afford quadrant 2 or 3 losses. We really need to run the table in the non-conference.

Guard play on defense has not been good, haven't been able to stay in front of their man. That's impossible to do all the time, but IL has been bad so far. The first game against Nicholls guy got 25, against GCU Brown got 18, and TF had a hard time keeping the other guard (frosh) in front (14), and AZ guards lit it up. I did think Ayo did a decent job on, Manion. The high ball screen defense was particularly bad, too. If your gonna go over the top on the screen you gotta keep contact which often didn't happen against , AZ. I like to see a quick double and recover (which AZ did) but Underrwood apparently doesn't. I really don't care what they do as long as it's effective.

Bolded: I agree and that’s how I teach it but in the age of freedom of movement that’s hard to do without a foul. I saw something about how the rockets angle their screeners to force the defense to go over the top for that very reason. It’s an automatic trail or foul.

Italics: a quick double and recover is a scary proposition for kofi. We need him on the floor and potentially picking up a foul hard hedging or doubling a screen 35 feet from the basket is a foul we don’t need him to get. Assuming he doesn’t get the foul I have qualms about his ability to recover on a quick roll. I think his straight line speed for his size is great. His agility and quickness, not as great.

Do we have things to work on, yes. i believe we are better than people on this board think. oh by the way #23LSU only beat Nicholls state by 10 LOL

Less than 14 turnovers, I'll be happy.

Kofi going to have a big game tomorrow again Hawaii's roster! Definitely drinking kofi koolaid...🤣💪🤣💪🤣

What color do you think the KOFI koolaid is?

FiveStar, i would agree i don't want Kofi picking up fouls 35 feet from the basket. AZ, set a lot of screens right outside the 3 line. Those were the screens we sometimes didn't get over which led to some baskets by Manion, because the defender didn't get around in time and no one was there to stop a couple runners and a 3 three that i recall. I would not have Kofi do a hard double, more of a show and hope the other guy can recover. There are different ways of defending the high ball screen, i just prefer the quick double. Whatever works for IL great, but i don't think they've done a good job defending it so far

Vegas=Illinois -15.5

Vegas is brave. Seems like we've played down from the pre-season* hype.

*Auto-correct suggested "pee-season". I'm not sure if that's just my computer, or an actual thing, but I'm afraid to google it.

Does anyone know if they opened up the stadium to alcohol like they did with football? Or is it still just in the traditions club section?

Open to all. Also know that they are using metal detectors at the door which is causing some back ups.

Wonder how long it will take for him to get out of the dog house, and if he will be on board with the team rules. Seems like we could really use a 4 about now....
