Jess Settles looking forward to this game because "this Illini team likes to talk a lot of trash?" WTF?? Wasn't it the Iowa punk McCaffrey kid who started the stuff last year? Come on, Jess! Just when I was beginning to find you tolerable! Man I hope we beat these guys!

Been a common phrase out of media lately. Not sure that's what we want to be known for.

I'm guessing that's coming from opposing coaches to the B10 network talking heads. Any advantage you can try to get I guess...but I agree not a rep we need.

Buckle up. The tough stretch of the 20-21 season starts now.

I'm assuming we are unable to schedule any make-up games prior to the 29th. If true, we need to go 2-2 vs Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan.
3-1 would be nice!! According to Underwood they are going to try and get a non conf game in, would expect to play someone this weekend

I don’t understand Underwood’s explanation of the cascading effect of schedule changes as reason not to move up the Iowa game.

No reason to waste a weekend with Iowa and Illinois both sitting. Play them this weekend, and have the following weekend open to possibly accommodate other postponements. A lot can happen in 10 days; might as well play the game now if you can.

Also, would the B10 rather Illinois and Iowa schedule a lesser conference game and risk possible exposure by breaking the B10 bubble?

Or play like next Tuesday. Iowa has a game Thursday.

Because Iowa played it's full non-con schedule and an extra game against us would be considered non conference, not counting in the B1G standings.
It would put them over the NCAA mandated 27 game limit.

I think it's unlikely Underwood is going to want to move up the Iowa game. DMW and Grandison are both a little banged up right now. I imagine BU wants to try to get them back to health (or as close as possible) before taking on Iowa. I'm guessing we'll either schedule a ho-hum non-con opponent or just give ourselves a week to rest and practice.

Texas Tech with two postponements in a row due to opponents (today and Sat). I know it's a pipe dream, but it would be amazing to sneak them in this weekend.
I kind of doubt BU wants that game right now either. We have a tough stretch coming up. He'd probably take a team like St. John's, but I wouldn't want to play Tech with our schedule right now.

St Johns just scheduled Utah Valley for 1/23 so they are out as a possibility

Absolutely. I'm not hoping for that as an Illinois fan. I'm hoping for it as a fan of exciting college basketball.

I'm ok with Iowa breaking some rules, or not being allowed to play in the post-season. 😁

Play Utah Valley 1/23, Illinois 1/25 and DePaul 1/27 ?? Not sure what Utah Valley testing protocols are and that might eliminate St. John's as an opponent by proxy??

Here come the big boy games, which ACTUALLY might be a plus for this team. Whatever our effort problems are that weren't remedied during the PSU game, I am pretty confident we will come out giving Iowa all that we've got. So much bulletin board material in this matchup, and this game would be H-U-G-E anyway.

I venture to say that we might have had the best atmosphere in Assembly Hall/SFC since the Wake Forest game for this one in a normal year. :(

Has any team this season had any luck slowing down Garza this season, i.e. 18 points instead of 26, 6 rebound instead of 10.
Any thoughts on how to accomplish this?
KC has a pretty decent game against him the end of last season didn't he???

Here is how I would defend Iowa. I actually would NOT try to double Garza. He is a very good passer and will find a shooter who will make you pay. We do not want Iowa shooters to get hot. Let Garza get his 25 points and keep Kofi out of foul trouble so that he can go at Garza on the other end. What I don't want is Fredrick, Weiskamp, Bohannon to get hot and then the game gets away from you.

Garza was 28/8 vs. us in that game. Kofi was 12/8 with one very key block. They both had four fouls. Garza played 40 minutes to Kofi's 25. No one has really stopped Garza this year. NW has slowed him a little holding him to 18/6 and 17/10 in their two meetings.

If I remember correctly Iowa shooters feasted in the game against NW because they doubled Garza heavily.
