I don't know if Dan will approve this thread, but I have had trouble over time getting answers to my questions. No matter the question, I'm always sure some of my fellow posters could easily proved the answers. This thread would be for any sports topic. I'll begin this way: What is Petrovic's status (men's hoops)?

1. Had an ankle injury, but word is it’s not bad and he’ll be okay for the season opener.
2. More problematic: he hasn’t been officially cleared by the NCAA and we have no idea what year (sophomore, junior, etc) he’ll be classified as if and when his eligibility is approved.
Tomi wasn't cleared by the NCAA until October 31st last year. Just saying.

True…. But if there’s one thing we know about the NCAA it’s that one decision in no way mirrors another. Big Z wasn’t cleared at Kentucky until January. I’m cautiously optimistic… but I wouldn’t bet on any particular date.
I'll add a question for those in the know. What is the exact holdup with Mihailo Petrovic's eligibility status?
Was there something we overlooked with respect to his eligibility? Is there a light at the end of this tunnel, or could we wind up not being an ongoing issue that lasts the season?

Honestly, I doubt anybody here knows the answer to this. I doubt the coaching staff knows for sure.
It’s an NCAA thing.
He was born 6 months before Ivisic. This is pure speculation, but perhaps the NCAA wants to make him a senior and we want him to be a junior to align with Ivisic.
Pretty sure it's not a negotiation. We put in the paperwork, then we wait. NCAA decides what they're going to decide, then I think there may be an appeal process if we disagree.
There are a lot more of these eligibility determinations that need to be made these days. I'm guessing it's first come, first served and Petrovic committed/signed later than Mirkovic so he gets his determination later.

Thank you for this. But it makes me cringe. Over the yeara, we have often got snared by slow moving NCAA bureaucratic troubles. Seems like it takes us forever to get these paperwork issues resolved. But in my mind, Petro is the final piece to an extremely powerhouse starting five. Having him out there would push us over the top IMO.
I'm right there with you. It mitigates my concern a little bit to have that good look at freshmen Wagler and Lee. They may be ab;e to help right out of the gate.
I mean this in the nicest way possible, but the answer to your question has been in all of the threads. It’s also been discussed on Illini inquired podcast. Fully understanding that not everyone has time to read/consume everything like some of us, but that’s probably why your question hasn’t been directly answered.
I suggest following the “insiders” and then you can go straight to their posts by going to the following section. If you read everything by these guys, you’ll know as much as the rest of us because they provide most of the intel.

I have asked this (and other) questions in tthreads that haven't been answered. I don't doubt what you say, but to be honest, I don't read every post in every thread; that would take me days. I'm also ignorant about insiders. I don't actually know what that means or how that roster functions. That's why I made an equivocal statement when I decided to start a new thread. My hazy memory is that BU said in one of his Q&A that they've submitted everything and are waiting on the NCAA. He didn't seem happy with the fact that it seemed to be taking longer than with T. Think he said something about Illinois having specialists that help everything along, but the NCAA is.....
In fairness to the NCAA*, they've been pulled in a lot of different directions with all the changes around college revenue sports. It would not surprise me that a lack of precedent in new situations slows them down. Maybe some day they'll have deadlines and standardized policies that facilitate athletes getting through these things since, you know, it's their livelihood.

No one knows - just all being hopeful. No dates given to staff, they just keep answering the questions asked of them when asked.
I think best to ask after Halloween. nobody will know still because it's the NCAA but that's best

T got his approval on October 31, 2024, after signing on May 6, 2024 - a period of just under 6 months.
Petrovic signed on July 31, 2025. It has been less than 3 months since he signed. If it took the same amount of time as Tomi, we would hear from the NCAA sometime in January.
I am guessing his clearance will actually not take as long as Tomi's.
